My son needs khaki's for work. Unfortunately they do not make the size we really want, he's very tall and thin. We'd love 30 waist 34 leg, but the smallest waist with that leg is 32.
I know nothing about altering and wonder can it be done to make a 32 waist a 30 without them looking funny? He generally wears dockers, some are pleated some flat front. Is one easier to alter than another, in that does one come out better than another when you alter it?

Go the the Dockers website, they have a fit chart that will show you all the styles in size you need.

Lands End has chinos and hems by order, so you can get 30x34. Also check their school uniform pants, they may be cheaper that way.

Men's dress pants can be easily altered--they are actually constructed to be easy to alter. But chinos are usually made more like women's pants. And they aren't easily altered.
I'd order them online. Lots of places (like those above!) have longer lengths in most waist sizes. Another place to look would be Old Navy.
If he has to order pants from a specific place designated by the employer, then I would get him a belt. In a year, he will probably gain an inch or two in his waist as he grows.

Check out JCPenney's Arizona brand - I know for sure that they have that size. My DS wears a 30x34.

I feel your pain. We are having a hell of time finding Ds slacks for homecoming. He is 30 x 34. Apparently you can't be tall and skinny.
So we ordered some for Ds since homecoming is tonight. They are HUGE. the come up to his bipples and are big enough around to fit me. WTH.
So off we go in search of black slacks in stores that will fit him.
Ugh

If you're unable to find his size online, yes, they can be easily altered. I think hemming pants is easier than having to take off the waistband and alter from the waist.

Macy's and penny's will have that size in dockers right before a big sale. Buy them when you see them and they will refund you the difference, if it is with in a week.
