I am a plan-a-holic when it comes to travel, and I have taken to creating custom Google maps of all the places I might want to hit. It's awesome for walkable cities like NYC, because if we wander into a particular neighborhood my pins will show if there is a shop or restaurant I'm interested in that happens to be nearby.
But when we were in Canada this summer, my pins wouldn't load, even though I had saved the maps so that I could access them offline. I could still pull up Google Maps of the areas I had saved, but my map pins weren't there, which was kind of a bummer. As soon as we crossed the border back into the US, my pins reappeared, so I'm thinking it was some kind of prohibition from Google. (Like how we couldn't access certain shows on Netflix while in Canada.)
Now I'm planning for a trip to Paris next month and I already have a map full of recommended shops and restaurants, but I'm afraid the pins won't load again.
Has anyone successfully used My Maps out of the country? I pulled up several articles, but none of them confirmed that they worked for foreign travel.
Thanks!

I've used the google maps app in foreign countries with success, but not on a laptop. Since you mentioned offline mode, I assume you mean from a laptop? Sorry, I can't help with that.

No, I used it on my phone. You can download maps onto your phone if you don't want to use your data--although I ended up buying an international data plan. Anyway, Google Maps worked, just not the pins I added with the "My Maps" feature.

We were just in Paris in May and used the app City Maps 2Go by Ulmon. I downloaded the Paris map and setup pins by category. I highly recommend it!
