I'm shedding, or balding and don't want to think about it No matter how much I brush elsewhere, a bunch of hair goes into my bathroom lavatory requiring clean out every few months- gross. And the stopper release thingy is hard to reach under the counter so it's a big pain. Is Drain-o bad to just dissolve the hair and be done? DH thinks it is. Is there something I can put over the stopper? It seems like a simple problem, but I am flailing.

I have this in my bathtub, I have to replace it every few months when I discover that a new product clogs it. I use this natural product in my sink a few times a year.

I suggest a little strainer that sits in the drain. Just dump it every day. Also, don't rinse your hair down the drain. If I see hair in the sink, I just wet a bit of toilet paper and swish the sink to get it out then toss it in the trash can.

Yes there are severa strainer type options. Go to your local hardware store and pick on that works for you. We have the same problem.

Loose hair in the bathroom is my bête noire. I despise it. I spend an inordinate amount of time wiping it up from the counters and floor.
For my bathroom sink and shower, I keep the drains clean by doing a preventive treatment. About once every other month or so, I shake a generous amount of baking soda down the drain followed by a big pour of white vinegar. Then while those do their thing, I boil a pot of water. Once you pour that down as well you can hear the "whoosh" as the drain clears. That's all it ever takes, but I think the secret is to do it regularly.

$2-$3 tool called a Zip it shoved down the drain. Pulls out the hair balls in a few seconds. Gross but effective.

I do the baking soda and vinegar too: 1/2 cup baking soda and 1/2 cup white vinegar. Pack the drain with baking soda, pour down vinegar, cover with a plate. After half an hour, remove plate and pour BOILING water down the drain to clear. Much cheaper than a plumber and it doesn't hurt the drains. If that doesn't do the trick, try 1 tbsp. CLEAR ammonia down the drain (don't use sudsy ammonia) followed by BOILING water. Works like a charm. Preventative maintenance is the key: do this at least once a month to keep ahead of the gunk.

Ok, thanks freebird. I thought maybe it was a language difference If it makes you feel better, I've never heard a sink called a lavatory. I thought the lavatory was just the word for the whole bathroom or rest room.

ETA: Doh! What breetheflea ( breetheflea) suggested... Try a Zip it hair snare for around $2.50. I have two girls so our poor old drains do double duty. You shove it down and scary things come out. I usually follow it with boiling water. In our house, things like Drano have made clogs congeal into an impassable mass requiring plumber intervention.

I have this in my bathtub, Me too. It catches all kinds of grossness - I hate cleaning it out every morning, but it has to be done.

SaveSaveSaveSaveI recently saw these at the dollar store. They work so well! I have one in every bathroom and I use it in the shower too. I have an extra hair catcher over my shower drain, but hair still falls out and sneaks past it, clogging up the drain. I have just always used a drain cleaner product. I haven't had any problems with my drains in this house, and I've done this for over 30 years. I don't let it sit for more than about 30 minutes and then I flush it with hot water. My hair grows disgustingly fast and I am at the stage right now where I am just about to whack it all off myself. It feels like I just had it cut a couple of months ago, but it is already almost to my waist again. I am forever cleaning the shower drain from long hairs. I am sweeping them up off the bathroom floor. I spent about an hour the other day with scissors and tweezers picking all the hair off the vacuum brushes. It clogged the bristles up and was wrapped around the roller brush shaft area and the vacuum was hardly picking anything up. I have to clean my hairbrush out daily. Not scrubbing it with soap, but taking a pick or comb to it to get the hair nest out of it. And. TMI, but this it the thing that bothers me the most about my hair. No matter how careful I am when drying my hair after I shower, or getting changed, somehow a couple of long hairs always end up down the back of my shirt or pants. There is nothing as annoying as feeling a hair that has fallen out and landed on your butt just before putting underwear on. I don't know why that happens to me so darned often. And I usually don't notice it until I am out in public and can't do anything about it. Thanks for the information on using vinegar to clear a drain. I'm going to give it a try. SaveSave

We just use Drano or Liquid Plum'r in the sink and tub as needed. I have a ton of hair, and it is falling out. I lose a lot of hair every day
