After reading the thread about cable companies I looked up Sling TV. It looks like it would be a good thing for dh and I.
What are your compliments or complaints about it?

Love, love, love my Sling Box. We live in Germany and are able to sling everything to our computers from the cable box our friends have hooked up in Maryland. Downside? Beside the six hour time difference, I can't think of a downside. Our friends have a designated box ($10/mo) for us so we can watch whatever we want and don't have to worry about what they are watching.
We use it to get American TV (primarily football) and it works exactly as advertised.

If the damn app worked, I would have kept it. It kept crashing and it drove me nuts, so I gave up and cancelled it. I considered buying a Fire Stick or something else but why should I pay for a device when the app should just WORK? Disappointing.

My understanding was that you either needed a smart tv or some type of devise such as Apple TV or an Amazon Fire Stick

We just bought the SlingBox, set it up in Maryland (friend hooked it up), went online and set up an account and voila! Works like a charm! We watch on our computers, but this weekend we went to a friend's house and hooked our computer into the TV with an HDMI cable and watched on the big tv. They do have a smart TV.
We use use the app and it works fine. There are two versions; a free one and one that is $14. We use the pay one and it's fine.

We love our Sling! I am not super smart about all our TV technology at home, but we also have a Roku and when I go to the Sling channel, I can find something I want to watch 95% of the time just on that app alone. (We also have Netflix, Amazon, Hulu and some other ones). It seems like we get the major channels through Sling - Food Network, HGTV, History, Comedy Channel, Freeform, CNN, ESPN, etc. Love it!

We dropped cable in March and subscribe to Sling TV. We use it with an Amazon Firestick on our main TV and with a Firebox in our bedroom. I also stream on my windows laptop and my phone. We occasionally have buffering issues but i'm very, very satisfied and do not expect to go back to cable.

We have it and like it with our roku tv. Between it and all the free programming a roku tv gets, it's why I wanted to cancel the last bit of cable, but as I explained in the other thread, it was cheaper to keep the bundle. Sometimes it buffers, especially if we're both on our iPads at the same times, but it's not too bad usually.

We have had it for a year or so. DH sets it up, and we have Roku and a cord from computer to TV, and watch everything on the big TV. We use it for ESPN and some FOX sports. Occasionally there is buffering, but not often. We have watched a lot of women's basketball. The picture is great. We ditched cable when we got Sling.

With such similar names, it's pretty confusing. Save

We have Sling and it seems to fill in the gaps between antenna tv (local channels), netflix, and Hulu. I like being able to watch real time shows as well as the ones they have on demand. You can also add/remove add on vchannels at will.
Two thumbs up here!

We hated Slingtv. It was choppy at prime TV time. It was very frustrating.
We recently got Streamsmart TV which was pricey but worth it just to get rid of cable/Hulu/Netflix. You have to have good internet for it though.

1) We have an Apple TV with the app. 2) We pay for both the Orange and Blue options of channels because we care about college football 3) We have pretty quick internet speed so we do not experience buffering or choppy viewing. We have very consistent streaming. We stream everything. We pay for CBS, HuluPlus, Netflix and what iTunes we can't get otherwise. We done this for 3+ years. We've had SlingTV since mid-summer. We will keep it after football season is over. My DH is already looking forward to basketball season! Kristin

We have DirectTV's Sunday Ticket with all of the NFL games. Can we watch those with SlingTV? I have both Roku and Amazon Fire Stick.

We had to get SlingTV Orange and Blue to cover all our NFL options. Still cheaper than cable.

We are locked into a Directv contract, but that looks awesome, except they don't appear to have Fox News, and every my hubby watches their evening news.

I have a question for those who do use Sling Tv now. Have you found a way to record shows to watch later? Being able to record shows to watch later is a nice advantage of the DVR. Just wondering if there are options out there to use with streaming, since my understanding is that Sling TV is live time programming. Thanks!

I also just learned of Sling from the other thread.
Can someone clarify - it speaks of "live TV" but can you also catch the shows later if you don't catch them live - on demand - and is there any delay more than a day or so after it originally airs?
Thanks!

So just like cable, it streams live broadcast TV (like my beloved Walking Dead) but if I miss my show, I can watch it On Demand the next day. Different channels have different On Demand options. I've yet to see any detail online that says SlingTV is able to be recorded (dvr).

I was looking at their add on channels, and I doubt out of market games would be available. I can't be sure of course, but it seems like they're the same channels that you get with satellite or cable. I live in Denver, and had to get Sunday Ticket so I could watch the Patriots, they're never on any of the network or sports channels unless they're the game of the week or playing Denver.
