I was cruising at ACOT and I saw something that looked like Twistel. Do you remember that stuff? I never could figure out how to use it. It was a neat thing to buy and I had great intentions to use it, but how? It was just wrapped paper. I am sure I donated it a million years ago-at least I hope I did never to be seen again!

yup, the Twistel for me too. it never appealed to me. i never knew how i could incorporate it into my projects so i never bought into it. it also reminded me of the door wreaths from the late 80's and early 90's that used that stuff to make bows. <<shudder>>

Was that the stuff that was colored raffia? If it was I remember buying it and never using it. Just couldn't figure out how to work it into my layouts.
I think my biggest 'can't make it work' problem was the office supply trend. There were all those colorful paper clips, mini file folders, staples, etc. No matter what I tried my pages just looked like a bad Office Depot ad.

What does acot stand for? A Cherry on Top, an online retailer that lots of Refupeas buy from. LOL, we need a dictionary to translate sometimes.

I'm not very certain how to effectively use so much of the messy mediums.
I'm crafty, not creative and artistic, so unless I can squirt it out of a bottle or tube and be done with it (like Stickles) I'm afraid I'm not very good with it.

I'm pretty creative, but I can't make sprays and mists work to save my soul. No matter what I do it just looks like a mistake.

I so agree with the messy mediums and spray/mists comments. No matter how much I practice it just looks wrong.
I still have twistel, have been debating purging it. I have used it on a few layouts a LONG time ago. It's just too cutesy not to mention a royal pain to unravel.
I never got brass stenciling plates, it always looked like a 4 year old did it.

My mixed media stuff is always a mess. I need to practice in an art journal or something before trying on a LO so I can predict the results a bit more.

Bind it all. I couldn't figure out how to use that. I had one and have no idea where it went. Someone sent me a zillion wires and they were all tangled so I had to throw them out. I have no idea where that thing went. I sure don't want to see it again!

I bought like 800 bottles of those Tattered Angels sprays, used them, got pissed, tried them again, got more pissed, and finally sold them all for about a dollar each. What a waste of money. Save

I just donated mine plus about $300 worth of covers, pages and coils to my kid's school to use in their publishing center. I figured it would be much easier to take the tax deduction than to try to sell off all that stuff piecemeal. Plus now I'm the teacher's BFF, LOL.

All the different kinds of inks. Never know how to use them or which one dries or which one needs to sit.
Then all those brass templates...no idea? and there is a whole slew of templates that you can cut then turn your paper into flowers. I don't even know what kind of machine you are supposed to use. I see all that stuff and I keep walking.
Edited to add...embossing...eh?? I know but I don't. uggggg.

Definitely spray mists. I can get them on everything except my project. I don't know what it is about me & art mediums but if I use them in art journals it always looks like a toddler creation. No offense to toddlers. If I use my art mediums for their intended purpose I have no problem. Last night my DH & I tried the new vaseline method of using colored pencils. NEVER EVER AGAIN! It was a mess and a nightmare. My husband said "This is really cool." I said "No, it's not!" Bind-it-All I do my style. I was doing it the Zutter style and could not figure it out. Now, I love my Bind-it-All. I can't explain my style of using the BIA. Least I can finally use it. Fiskars Circle Cutters & the Oval Cutters. No way ever again.

I'd heard of using baby oil (which bled through to the back of the paper) but never Vaseline! You can get a small bottle of Gamsol for not very expensive at the box art stores or Michael's. I don't always use it, but it really does work well. I haven't had an issue with odor from it.

Crafting suppose to be fun. It was far from that.

I shall hang my head in shame. The dang Cricut that I absolutely HAD to have. I just took one look at it and my brain hurt. I just need to stop working and play all the time. I really do!

I bought like 800 bottles of those Tattered Angels sprays, used them, got pissed, tried them again, got more pissed, and finally sold them all for about a dollar each. What a waste of money. I got a super deal on a whole box of Tattered Angels sprays, but could never get them to work right so I put them out at a garage sale just to get rid of them. At one point an older lady and her daughter were browsing and chatting in another language about the Tattered Angels sprays. I was heading over to demonstrate them when the older woman pulled up her sleeve, uncapped a bottle, sniffed, and and prepared to spray the stuff on her arm like perfume! You know those film clips where the character yells and begins running full speed and jumping over obstacles in slow motion to prevent a disaster?!? That was me getting from point A to point B in my cluttered driveway! I'm sure they thought I was insane when I pushed the bottle away from her body chanting "NO, it will stain your clothes!!!!", but when I sprayed it on paper and explained it was like paint, they both laughed. And bought the whole lot!

I don't always use it, but it really does work well. I haven't had an issue with odor from it. You have to try the Vaseline technique. It is very different. I guess it is popular with the coloring book artists right now. I am into the whole adult coloring book craze too but my husband ended up finding out about the Vaseline. He is on a color pencil craze right now. Apparently, there are a lot of YouTube videos about it. I guess this falls into the product I don't know how to use. Color pencils are my go to coloring tool. I have always pencil shaded. It was the rubber stamping world ten years ago that I learned about Gamsol. That took some getting use to also. I like Gamsol but I think I am stuck in my ways and prefer pencil shading. DH has "borrowed" my Gamsol. This means I will have to get another bottle, lol. I love baby oil though. I think baby oil is so nice to work with using student grade colored pencils like Crayola. I guess when I am using my artist grade colored pencils I am a purist and don't want any mediums touching them. I know very quirky.

My old Craftrobo, cut some letters for titles but that was about it. Now my Cameo I LOVE, so much easier to use.

Speaking of messy products I really never did well with the acrylic paints and foam stamps that were popular years ago. I wasn't crazy about the look but thought I'd try it anyway since it was so popular. Bad idea. In fact I went to CKU and one of the classes was creating a layout with method. Mine came out looking like I'd played paintball and lost. I did learn a valuable lesson though. If I don't care for a trend I'm not wasting my money on it no matter how popular. I'll save my money because there'll be another one along soon that I'll like much better.
