Had my heart set on the Epson Picturemate then found a great deal on this Canon. Wondering how they compare in print quality. I'm not too enamoured with the wide-format since it takes up a lot of precious desk space and the larger sized photo paper gets pretty pricey. Did a Google search and saw that kellypurkey used it in 2014, but I wanted some feedback from regular, everyday scrappers. Is the Pixma worth the investment? How good are the prints? What's the best paper to use if you want to stamp on photos? How's it for printing journal/filler cards?

I have had the Canon 8720 for a little less than a year and the reviews are mixed on my part. I do a lot of print and cut projects on my silhouette cameo and the canon does a very good job on the "print" portion of those projects and I like having the "wide" option. It also works fine as a daily office printer. Where I feel it is lacking is in the photo printing area. In addition to the Canon I have an Epson PictureMate and there is just no comparison in the quality - the Epson wins hands down. I even called Canon customer service and went through a variety of procedures to improve pic quality, but still doesn't measure up to the Epson. Unfortunately, Epson seems to have terrible customer service, so that's something to consider too when making your decision. For now I'm keeping both printers (I have them in an armoire so space isn't a big consideration) as each has it's advantages. Good luck with your decision.

Thanks lancene, that's exactly the sort of feedback I wanted. I went and measured three different spots that could house a printer and none of them would hold a beast like the 8720 (without being an inconvenience and an eyesore). Guess I'll keep stalking Epson for a deal. I've had to deal with their CS a few times for work tech and they give major companies a run around, so I'm not too surprised that they're not the greatest with individual customers. But, ultimately, I'm more concerned with how my photos look vs how the CS agent made me feel. Thanks again!

I have the Canon Pixma IP-8720 and love it. Now that being said, I have nothing to compare it to as it's the very first photo printer I've had at home. I absolutely love the idea of being able to print out a picture and scrap it right away, no more going to big stores to stand there for an hour printing pics.
