(My niece suggested this.)
She is going to dress all in white to reflect the power of a woman's vote and as a way of honoring the suffragette women who worked to make it possible for all of us to vote. (During that era, the women who marched for the vote, wore all white in the demonstrations.)
I like the idea--and wish I had been doing it my entire life.

I know a reenactor who is wearing her full suffragette kit (including the votes for women sash) on Election Day.

but would the lay person understand the meaning of all white?

I'm glad it is meaningful to her. But, if I saw her I would just assume all white was her style (like some dress in all black) I would not think of women's voting rights unless she was wearing a period costume and wearing a right to vote sash (sorry, I just wouldn't connect the dots)

I think the outfits Hillary wore at the Democratic Convention and the third debate were discussed online and on television. Many people would understand what you were doing.

I wouldn't get it, at all. I think she should make up business cards or postcards that explain it, and hand them out.

I wouldn't understand it, but that's cool that it has meaning for her. My husband wears red every friday (he was sad when he forgot one week and realized later) because it's a thing for supporting the military. Many times, he can't wear it outright (uniform at one of his jobs) so he'll wear it as an undershirt. I didn't realize this was a thing until he mentioned it after the missed week.
Even if I wanted to support this, I couldn't. White is transparent without many layers and I prefer not to wear transparent clothing, so beyond socks and panties, I don't wear white. In fact, I don't even wear white socks very often now because I got tired of doing tiny loads of laundry just to get clean socks, so now I buy colored socks, too...white anything else gets washed with colors because no one sees it and I don't care if it stays pristine, haha.

Perhaps if we women made it "a thing" people would connect the dots. I often think that the younger ones don't understand all of what women have gone through in the work world.

Around here, red on Friday is supporting women's heart health.

If men were denied the vote for as long as women were they would not be able to vote until 2147!! I think wearing white is a great idea...she should share via social media with a hash tag like #wearwhite

Will someone initiate that? I'm not sure I would do it correctly, as my twitter experiences are very limited.

I think that is a cool idea. I don't really own much white clothing...but I desperately want to wear my red flashing devil horns when I go to vote, since one of our wackier pundits said that Hillary was an actual demon. I'm not sure I have the nerve to do it, though!

They could - but the issue is that, unless some comment or video goes viral right now, the best thing would have been is for some organisation or another to do that with more feed in time. In addition, I don't (as a consumer of the marketing) quite 'get' the point she is making, especially a one of the Presidential candidates is a woman, therefore representing the strides females have made in both the political and social arena. Women DO have the right to vote and vote as they wish, however much some on this site try to tell them otherwise!!!

I know a reenactor who is wearing her full suffragette kit (including the votes for women sash) on Election Day. This came up another thread (was it you?) and someone replied that she might not be allowed to wear the sash in/near a polling place. I can see where someone might mistake "Votes for women" as an exhortation to literally cast your votes for women, especially one notable woman in this election. Cool idea, though. My user name approves.

Next week, I plan to visit www.nps.gov/wori/index.htmWomen’s Rights National Historical Park tells the story of the first Women’s Rights Convention held in Seneca Falls, NY on July 19-20,1848. It is a story of struggles for civil rights, human rights, and equality, global struggles that continue today. The efforts of women’s rights leaders, abolitionists, and other 19th century reformers remind us that all people must be accepted as equals. Perhaps I can suggest they promote the idea.

I've said it here before but the last election was 51% female vote. That's just powerful! Wear your white (and gold and purple) or any other color - but VOTE! Vote for Clinton, vote for Trump, vote for your neighbor down the street but VOTE! I'd totally wear one of these to vote if I didn't vote by mail: Story behind the Jail Pin And a bit more history...
