So we're watching SNL. During the Weekend Update segment they have on Leslie Jones. She's talking about her recent hack and how the people released naked pictures of her.
Often when I hear of a celebrity being hacked they mention naked pictures being released.
So my question: why do all these people have naked pictures of themselves? Is it a celebrity thing? Other than a couple pictures of me as a baby I've never taken a naked picture let alone stored it where others could access it. Is it just me? Why do all these people have naked pics of themselves?

Severe lack of common sense?
I remember Oprah mentioning she went to stop less beach in the 70s/80s and kept her top on because she hoped she'd be famous one day and didn't want a rogue party pic to be out there. It seems like today's celebrities lack that foresight.

It's pretty common for people to share photos with whomever they are in a relationship with, especially for people who are apart a lot. I know plenty of people who do it - some who travel a lot and some who don't.
Celebrities travel a tremendous amount, generally, so it's not surprising they'd be taking and sharing pictures.
It's the fault of the hackers. I think it's gross how often people lay blame with the victims, that it wouldn't happen if they didn't take the pictures.
It's not your fault if a bank robber steals money from a bank. You weren't foolish for storing your money there. Neither is it your fault nor are you foolish for storing your photos in a secure, private service and they are subsequently stolen.

I don't think it's a celebrity thing. I would bet that more people have naked pictures of themselves than they are willing to admit. You do things with your partners that you think is just for you.
And with cloud storage (especially with iCloud) pictures are backed up, therefore easily hacked.

@busypea I'm not blaming the victim. I was simply asking a question because I myself don't have naked pictures. Most of the people I know don't have naked pictures. I was just curious because it seems every time a celebrity is hacked they claim naked pictures were released.
I guess I'm just surprised that a person, celebrity or not, would keep/store those types of photos knowing how easily they could be hacked.
I can't imagine how they feel. I'd be mortified. They're in no way to blame. I'm just surprised at how many people are apparently taking naked selfies.lol

The point is they are not "easily" hacked, any more than a bank is "easily" robbed. The people who do it are criminals and stealing from others.

Of course they are the victims, but for me it's hard to understand the appeal of doing this at all. Even in my skinny days! Hacking aside, I would be hesitant that someone I knew would find the photos on my phone. Like forgetting to exit out of the gallery or accidentally posting the wrong photo for all to see. ETA: I have no idea who does or does not do naked pictures and prefer to remain oblivious to that answer!

If you, like me, are the kind of person that everyone thinks is 'proper' then they probably won't tell you :-D I don't have any of those kind of photos myself (and I wouldn't want them!) But I bet a lot of people do.

I have often wondered the same thing! Like to, I certainly don't blame anyone for having them. You can have all the nude pictures you want; it makes no difference to me! But I do think two things:
1. SO MANY nude pictures have been taken surreptitiously by paparazzi or leaked by hackers and then they're everywhere with the general public going nutso over them. I feel like, were I famous, I would be aware of this and wary of it happening to me.
2. What's up with all the nude pictures? I'm not takin' em! I have decent self-esteem but that's not something of myself I want to see. Really. Gravity, for goodness' sake. Gravity and vanity alone rule that right out. My dh is going to have to deal with only having the live version! Do all my friends and co-workets have nude pictures and I'm the odd one out? I'm pretty sure the answer is no but I'm not asking. That is not actual information I want to know.

It's not just celebrities who take nude selfies; lots and lots of ordinary people do it, too. I got a *lot* of flack on this board when I said that I prefer a swim dress to a bikini, so I really think modesty is not a popular concept. People love posting their every hiccup on Facebook; people love wearing very little clothing on the beach; people take nude selfies and send them to their significant others. This is just where we are as a society. A few of us will sit back and be flummoxed by it all, but we'd darned well better be sympathetic if anything goes awry from all this self-expression, because there, but for the grace of an exaggerated sense of modesty, go us all.

When I was young ( in my 20s) my bf and then my husband took naked pictures of me. I don't think it's that unusual.

It's not unusual. Celebrities are targeted because well, they're celebrities. There's money to be made for nude pictures of Leslie vs me.
I've posed nude before. I'm not a super model or even toned all over. There are a few pictures out there that could be found if you knew where to look. If the hackers got into my computer system remotely, they'd find an old folder on my external hard drive that has some of the nudes I posed for since the photographer gave me some of the files. Some day, I should move them all to a CD and get them off that ehd but I'm not going to be embarrassed about them. They're tasteful (artistic nudes vs porn). But let's be honest here. Hackers aren't looking for the average mom's pictures. They're looking for something to make a buck off. Celebrities are human just like us. They weren't always famous. And they want to send suggestive pictures to their partners, especially if they've spent time apart. Who cares? I'm more upset that their privacy isn't respected.

Back in the dark ages of my youth, it was nakey pictures via polaroid and hacking would be have been digging around in someone's underpants drawer. (and, for the record, I don't have any pictures, but considering the body I had back then, I sure wish I had...I had great and awesome boobies back then. )

I read the OP as asking Why the celebrities keep the photos, not a discussion about hacking being wrong. Im sure most agree stealing another's property is wrong, whether it's a Polaroid or a hacked file.
If a photo of you buying a latte can pay a papparazzi's rent, then you should think twice about doing "what everyone else does" . Many of us have different challenges or restrictions because of our job requirements, this is one of theirs.
LOL I'd "suffer" not sharing naked pics in order to have some of those salaries. That doesn't mean they deserve to get hacked, but rather it's a "freedom" I'd willing give up for the trade.

There were nude polaroids of me years and years ago, when I was young and hot, but I certainly don't want any around now!

Maybe I am cynical but I think a lot are "leaked" on purpose for the notoriety and then the person cries foul....or they are released from revenge an they had trusted the wrong person.
Otherwise I agree why wouldn't you secure them better? Convenient how easy it is to hack them.

Thank you and I apologize if my wording was confusing or wrong. English isn't my native language and sometimes I think I'm saying one thing when I'm actually saying another. For the record I 100% believe that hacking is not only wrong but agree that it's a crime. When it happens I feel bad for the victim as they've been violated. My post was meant to be a somewhat fluff post about people taking naked selfies. It was a poke at my own naivete that so many people, celebrity or otherwise, do this. I just had no idea.lol

It's funny how people see things differently. A friend of mine (youngish male, about 25 years old), told me a story about how he was out at a club, and all of the phones became super active about midnight. A younger sister of one of the group friends had started posting naked pictures of herself. It turns out she was also out clubbing and left her phone in a stall. Whoever found the phone started posting the pictures. It took the girl half an hour to shut down her page.
I repeated this story to a bunch of young female cousins and their moms. I thought it was funny that all the teenage girls said "Why didn't she password protect her phone?" While all the moms said "Why was she taking naked pictures?"
