Craft room brainstorming help needed!
OK so I'm setting up a scrapbooking/craft room and am wondering... What tips or suggestions do you have on what to put where?
My room is about 11x11 and its the short section of an L-shaped basement. So one side of the room is open to and overlooking a sectional couch into a TV area , so we'll call that "Wall #1". Wall #2 has a window, Wall #3 has a door and a window and Wall #3 is blank. The furniture I have is a 25-cube kallax and 2 8-cube kallaxes (2 cubes high and 4 long). Also 6-feet 2 ikea tables. All white.
-So I'm just needing thoughts about what you wanted close to you when scrapbooking? -Is there anything you wished you'd done differently or learned along the way? -How did you organize your shelving, like finished albums on bottom, supplies in the middle, etc? -Should I put the table in the middle or overlooking the TV room? I'm thinking of making one table a tool table against the wall? For like the Cricut/laptop.
Alrighty, this sounds very rambling, which basically summarizes my thought process when it comes to this! I'm creatively stuck!! Help!!

I have my desk in the middle of my 11 x 12 space. Right behind me is a wall length credenza and to the left of me a six foot Clip it Up. I have many of my punches on shelves on the wall in front of me.

If I had your set up... I would want a corner desk. One far side (far side is the side that would touch the wall) would be against the wall and the other far side would be against the "fourth" wall. ( fourth wall being the area that is open to the rest of the basement) the reason I would want the desk against the fourth wall is so i could see the rest of the room.
I like corner desks because they are deeper. I could put my ott light in the far corner right next to my tool carousel and still have plenty of work space on the desk. Yeah, its my dream desk. A lot of people like the Raskog carts (ikea) they set it up with there most used items or project specific items (all the project life stuff or all their card making stuff).

I have my paper and cardstock stored where it won't get faded by daylight, but my desk and work tables are on the side of the room that has windows. My U shaped desk is in a corner so when I'm working at one side I see out the window and when I'm working on the other side (which is most of the time) I can see out into most of the room and see the TV. I have a 6 year old and she is often down in my studio with me so I need to keep tabs on what she's doing.
I have a big space and I'm working on organizing my stuff into specific work zones. A place where most of my stamping stuff is stored, another place for sewing, and all of my bins of themed scrapping stuff (which I use most often) are in a large double closet near my work tables so when I'm done with something I can turn around and put the bin right back where it belongs. I have a different closet under the stairs that I'm thinking I eventually want to use for tool storage once I get some of the stuff I have stored in it out of there. If I can do that, it will open up some larger cabinets for other things.
I've been working on my space for a year and a half, and organizing is proving to be a moving target.

Great ideas. Thank you. I never thought of a corner desk. Hmm. I also like the idea of storing things according to zones, or with other like items. I need to make a list of what categories of things I have.

I don't have a massive stash so I keep about half of it in small drawers on my desk, and the other half is in another set of drawers that stands beside my desk. I can reach just about anything while I'm still seated. I keep all my tools in one of the drawers right in front of me so they are always easy to reach along with most of my embellishments. My second set of drawers hold larger or less frequently used tools (so alphas, mists, other mixed media stuff, and cardstock and paper scraps).
I have my computer in the same room, on a second desk which is situated on the opposite wall to my scrapping desk (mostly because that's where the power point and phone line is located and all the power cords are better hidden. I use a lot of computer journaling so it's convenient for me to print and add as I'm working on a page. I have my cameo set up here too.

I like to store by zones too, just makes sense in my head.
As for your desk, while crafting would you want to be able to look out a window? or see what's going on the 'other' room? or have the option to walk around a table? Do you want to even be able to view the open area or would you rather cocoon yourself away? You could always put the larger kallax as a wall separating your space from the rest of the basement. You might find an 11x11 too small for a center desk set up with your other pieces in place.
Good luck with your set up.

I have a small room (7 x 10 feet) with windows on 2 walls. I have an L shaped arrangement with an Ikea desk on the longest wall and my computer desk running off from that. On my Ikea desk I have 3 working areas - sewing machine one end, die cutting in the middle and scrapping the other end closest to my laptop and Cameo. This means I have everything within easy reach and can just swing my chair around from laptop to scrapping area.
I don't have any built in storage - I use rolling drawers under the Ikea table and I have a shelving unit on the back wall. The things I use most are in my Raskog cart and I really like that I'm able to move that around easily.
If I had more space I'd probably have a desk or work island in the middle of the room and storage around the edge, but that just doesn't work in the room I have.

I have a long U-shaped desk area so I can just scoot my chair over to wherever I need to work---on the computer (which is in the corner) or at the peninsula where most of my stuff can be spread out.
I have my TV on the only available wall space that doesn't have a window but it's no problem seeing it from my peninsula.
I have a Card Catalog below the TV and jetmax cubes dotted here and there.
I like to have my tools within reach so that is what is on top of 1/2 of my deskspace. I keep everything in spinning or tiered caddies/baskets which makes it accessible and visible.

I don't know if this is helpful given your set up, but I have a kitchen cart with wheels in my room. Top shelf is my printer, middle is my cameo, and bottom is white paper storage (12x12 cardstock, printer paper, and photo paper). I don't always want or need those machines next to me, so I wheel it to the corner out of the way when I'm scrapping, and wheel it over to my desk/computer when I need to cut a file or print a photo. That, and having a dedicated sewing machine desk, have made me use my big equipment MUCH more often, and I got a lot of work space back by moving them off my main table.

I have a kitchen cart with a tool drawer and open and closed shelving below. My Vagabond is on top, and all the dies and embossing folders are stored in the cart. If I were redesigning this space again--which I won't be--I would get two more of those carts: one for the Cricut and cartridges, and one for my stamps and inks with a stamping mat on the top of it.

Yup, the kitchen cart is a good setup. I never thought to use it for stamps and inks, but that is a great idea, too. I like the idea of a stamping / heat embossing station! Mine has a shallow drawer, too. I keep ink cartridges in it for my printer. I though having the Silhouette Cameo on the middle shelf would make it unusable, but not so. Because everything with the cameo is in the front of the machine (nothing feeds to the back), it's easily accessible.

I would start with only a few considerations. First, space for just you or for one more person? (I have room for one more at my table.) Next, face which way? (Have something nice to look at or a mess to avoid looking at? I hate having my back to the door and having my family sneak upon me.) Third, lighting.
After that, the storage part usually works itself out. Use any walls to their fullest advantage. You got this!
