It's so sad that she can't see what she posts is WRONG. Unbelievable that we are still having these things happen.

Got him. Four cops on campus that I saw, Windows taped on the inside, not allowed to leave the classroom. Half his homeroom was absent and 7 more picked up while I was there.
This kid was our #1 senior baseball player. Something tells me this may impact scholarships.
The village where I live I'd quiet this morning. Keeping an eye out. I saw posts that said 'if it wasn't a big deal, show up in town square in costume at noon.
These red necks are nuts. Both the ones who are pissed and the ones that are defending him. We're going shopping in the city today.
The clown in this picture is a varsity cheerleader. She just tweeted I'd rather be dead than in this situation' and now we're into the 'what are you waiting for'posts.

OMG! Praying for your community now. That was a terrible thing for those kids to do, but I totally blame their parents for allowing it and now defending it. That girl may just end up killing herself over this! Hugs to you, Steph, and to your poor sons.

Hit them in their wallet. I posted on the business webpage and will hit yelp later. Actions have consequences.

Or was it someone different that threatened the kids in the picture and they school they attended? Was the #1 baseball player one of the kids in the picture or the person threatening the school? Also why are people coming down so hard on the kid in blackface when the girl in the picture performing the lynching is just as bad?

Glad you have your son with you. Until things calm down, that's exactly where I'd have my kid, too.
I hope the photos go viral and the family pizza business is heavily impacted. I can't believe that anyone thinks that black face is a socially acceptable costume. I can't believe that anyone would think a lynching is anything other than a racist act. What horrible people.
Being in a rural area and claiming ignorance shouldn't be an accepted excuse for this kind of hate and racism. I grew up in a very rural setting with a 95+% white population. There wasn't a lot of cultural diversity within easy reach of my hometown. The next decent sized city was roughly two hours away. We had one kid in my class who went a lot crazy after high school. He's the leader of white supremacist group and on watch lists and whatnot. No one knew what he was up to after high school until he goose stepped across the stage at the Montel Williams' Show in the mid 90's. You just never know, but tolerating it once you do isn't good.

The kid in black face is the baseball player, the girl is a varsity cheer leader. It's more focused on his family because of his mother's statement and the way that he went on attack on social media talking about how any of the pussies who had a problem with it could come find him.

I had all three of my kids block him so that people shopping around don't connect them. My youngest just got to school and they have the Windows taped and police on duty. Secretary says there isn't a direct that to the school, police dept says there isn't a lot of info just yet. I'm going to get my kid. WOW

Way past WOW!! No wonder there's so much security at the school. I can't even wrap my brain around this whole situation. This probably sounds over-reactive but I'm not sure I'd be able to let my kid go back to school. At the very least unless/until the ball player & cheerleader are expelled.

I cannot believe business owners & teens, especially those who paricipate on social media, are not aware of the racism & violence promoted in these costume choices/staging. Besides questioning the costumes themselves & the decision to post the images online, I'm particularly perplexed about the outcome they expected from the subsequent defense & challenges to an international audience. They have single-handedly brought shame & the potential for harm to their classmates & community. Given these people have shown you who they are - stupid, racist, classless, clueless, etc., believe them & boycott the games in which the boy plays &/or girl cheers as well as the business owned by the boy's mother.
Hope you & your family stays safe...

I'm still confused, I've read your updates, are you saying the police came to school to talk to the two students in the pictures? This is an interesting development because the people in this thread said it's not a police issue. So now we know it is.

Oh my holy hell, Steph. What a complete mess. I'm SO sorry for the mess you have found yourself in and I'm glad you have your son with you now.
I hope you'll update this evening or tomorrow. I'm hoping no one is hurt in the aftermath or this total bullshit action.
Sounds like the cheerleader is already pretty displeased with the consequences of her actions. I certainly don't wish her harm, but a hardcore wake up call would be appropriate.
Bless it.
Hang in there!!

I am sorry you are dealing with this. I can't really get my head around the idea that this woman thinks (1) that isn't racist or (2) that it is worse to be called racist than to . . . be racist.

Definitely a safety/police issue IMO.

Holy hell.
The blackface? Bad enough. The noose...dragging...reenactment? Unforgivable. But to add a Black Lives Matter shirt? That just sends it into a whole other stratosphere of despicable.
OP, hope things settle down, nobody gets hurt, the half-wit family gets their comeupance, and your new neighborhood is (loads) better.

I live in such a diverse area that I have a hard time believing this stuff still happens. Me too. I am glad that my kids went to school with other kids who do not look like them. The district next to us is primarily well-to-do and very white. We had a choice and opted for diversity.

Sorry if my posts earlier were confusing, I was using talk to text...it doesn't always translate well.
I don't use Twitter so I didn't realize how far things had spread until today. Last night, the facebook posts were circulating but it seemed to be pretty local until a friend from California posted it so I sent him to school like usual this morning, thinking it was an issue with the family, not the school.
He got there and there was an officer driving the parking lots, one inside the front doors and one in the other building. Windows were taped on the inside with paper so you can't see anything in the classroom. My son sent me the above texts, dh and I consulted and I decided to err on the side of safety and go get him after talking to some other parents who were also pulling their kids today. The kids were just freaked out.
The school said there were no threats and no issues, but they had taped windows, officers on duty, and were taking 'precautionary measures'. You don't generally take safety measures unless you feel like there is reason to in my opinion, so we went to breakfast and to Columbus to shop instead today. When I got to the school to pick him up they werre in lockdown mode, no students were allowed in the hallways and the doors were secured, but getting into the school was a matter of hitting the buzzer and the secretary saying 'come in' and unlocking. Literally no security in any way, shape, or form..not even a 'who is it? " Absurd.
He said about 1/2 of his homeroom was absent today and in the 5 minutes it took me to get him they had 7 more parents call to say they were on the way.
From what I gather here is a sort of timeline of events-
Halloween party was this weekend.
Mom posted pictures on facebook.
Her social media friends called her out and she posted the above rant.
The post started being forwarded.
Her son (pictured in black face) went on twitter to defend himself, confronting people who were calling them out for the racists they are and telling the people calling them out to come to his house and say it to his face, that they're all a bunch of pussies.
The girl pictured didn't respond for a while, but people on social media tracked her down through linked social media accounts.
People on Twitter started calling the school out saying that there is clearly a problem with students at the high school.
the girl posted saying that she would rather be dead than to deal with what she's dealing with. People responded with 'well, what are you waiting for'
Blackface kid locked down his social media accounts but kept commenting and ranting, mom deleted her page.
....and things keep escalating.
This afternoon there were news crews at the high school and then they came to town and interviewed some people who said it was unacceptable. Showed the outside of the pizza ship, which is open for business as usual. We drove by and the mom/shop owner was outside talking to some people and giving people the stank eye as they drove by (no more traffic than usual around 330, just a few cars but this is a SMALL town, so small it's classified as a village) When I left the post office and passed again there were people going inside to eat (i assume) but everything seemed quiet around there.
I HOPE word spreads and they aren't able to stay in business but around here? I'm not sure that will be the case. People seem appropriately pissed off about it, and the mom/sons reactions but then there are also people posting that the don't see what the big deal is, that it's a costume, it was just a joke and my favorite was from his cousin who said "You people are all assholes, it's halloween, you're supposed to be something you're not...if I dress like the devil does that mean i'm going to hell?" (There is not a chance that his spelling was correct, but I can't remember the ignorance correctly) There was also a twitter fued with a r&b singer that I hadn't heard of (but has a song on the Suicide Squad soundtrack) where the high school quarterback posted about what a great school it is and that they aren't all racists....and then the singer scrolled his social media account and found a post from a while ago where the football player was dropping N bombs. So, that went well.
I'm not sure how this will play out for the business. I hope Giovannis pulls their name and they go out of business. Honestly, I can see the rest of the racists banding together to support the misunderstood and oppressed whites while the rest of us boycott. We also run into the issue that a lot of the population around here aren't on social media. they'll likely see it on the news and I suppose it will make the paper so it'll be interesting to see how it pans out.
The girl in the pictures posted that she won't be in school for a while and she seems like she's learning a lesson, but the boy and his family haven't shown anything even semi-appropriate let alone redeeming. I'll post her latest post in a sec.
J (my son ) isn't sure what he wants to do tomorrow, honestly, neither do I. We'll be having more disussions tonight and making a decision. I know some parents who say they're going to have their kids sit the week out, and some that say they aren't sending the kids back until the school does something.....most people seem to think they should do some kind of an increased social media awareness presentation, and there is clearly a need for some diversity and racism education.
I talked to the school secretary, the sheriffs office, and the superintendents office today. The Sups office secretary told me 'there have been no credible threats against the school, this is a case of something only being a big deal because it was blown out of proportion by people on the social media"
I'm pissed, disgusted, and really just sad about the entire situation. Between the KKK putting flyers on my car last summer, the issues with the Utopia project, and now this i'm just DONE with the bullshit around here and i'm not really sure what to do with the situation.
I'm SUPER concerned when baseball season rolls around. I'm going to struggle with sharing bleachers with their trifling family and having my child share a team with him. Hoping it's not a situation that will have to be dealt with.
Overall, this is a good community with good people and i'm horrified that this is what we're known for right now. The high school population as a majority isn't bad, but it's the bad apples that are bringing them all down.
Hoping this doesn't escalate in town, but keeping our eyes out in case it does.

Oh, and in a strange turn...most of the locals that shared the original pictures were removed from facebook and some of the celebrity posts about it/the ones that were retweeted the most disappeared this afternoon. I would think it was bullshit, but MY post was deleted and I know I didn't do it. Odd.
