now what do I do with it?
It was in my friends yard so knocking on the door asking if she is the owner isn't going to help there is a license with no phone number (address is about 25 miles away) there is no money but there is a bank card and a student id (for a school on the other side of town)
I would like to drop it off somewhere, not have some random person come to my house (in case there was money in it, I did not steal it!)
so drop off at the police station (not even sure where that is), the bank (on the debit card) or the school the kid goes to?
Thanks!

actually I looked at the student id card but it's from 2015-2016 so the kid probably doesn't go there anymore.

I'd drop it at either the bank or school. police station isn't a bad idea either.

You could call the bank for the debit card and ask them to notify the owner you are dropping it at the police station.

Did you look for the person on facebook? They might be on there and you could send them a message.
If you drop it off I'd do so with the police.

People move all the time and don't update their drivers license. I would call the bank and the school.
But here's the real question how did it get in your yard? I watch too much dateline and think the person was attacked, there was a struggle, and she was kidnapped.

The police station. If your city has a FB page you could post something like "If you lost your wallet, it has been turned into XYZ police station.

Take it to the police. That said, I had a wallet returned to me that was dropped in a post box. It took forever, but I got everything minus the cash back.

My son found one last year and I just Googled the owner. I found his work email, and contacted him even before he knew it was missing. I ended up meeting him at a subway station to return it to him.

I found a wallet at the mall. My local police station said they would take it but would not pursue finding the owner. I called the bank and asked if they could contact the owner and relay my phone number so I could make arrangements to get it back to her. (In our case it was a college town and not a local bank so I couldn't just drop it off at the bank, though I could have mailed it.) She called me and we met in a gas station parking lot. Not positive I'd do it again, but I was comfortable in that situation.

Take it to the police station. I found a check book with DL, medical card, etc. I googled the name and got the persons phone number. Called him and after arguing with him why I had his check book (he didn't believe I just found it, and why didn't we just leave it where it was ) we drove to his house and left it on his porch.

I'm a pretty generous person but after having him argue with me, I'm pretty sure I wouldn't go out of my way to deliver it to him. I hope he was just having a bad day and isn't an A$$ to everyone who tries to help! You are a good person.

I found a wallet once under bleachers at the high school. I was looking for my daughter's car keys that she lost (eventually found somewhere else, I think). I took the wallet into the office at the high school, but since it was the day after a game, it was pretty likely the kid still went there and confirmed when I dropped it off. There was still cash left in it, so he likely just dropped it.

Did you try whitepages.com to find a phone number for the person? 2015-16 is only last school year. Why do you think they don't go there any more? Maybe call the school if you can't find a phone number online.

If you take it to the police station...they likely won't try to contact the person. So if you can do the research and make contact with the owner to let them know what you did and which station you dropped it off at (if there is more than one station in your city)

You have an address. You could just mail it to that address with a note explaining where you found it.

I checked Facebook, found recent pictures of the person playing football (18 year old, which is why I wasn't sure they still went to the school until checking Facebook) and ended up dropping it off at the high school. It seemed quicker and less hassle and I won't have to contact the person to tell them where to pick it up, explain where I found it etc.

I found one once at my work in the bathroom. It's a public bathroom and there were various offices on the floor so it could have been from anyone, visitor or employee. I took it back into the office and found over $300!! And no ID except some random library card or similar (I can't remember exactly what). I think I finally called the management company of the building and told them I had it. I couldn't find her online either. I can't remember exactly how she found me or I found her, but she was glad to get it back. I remember dreaming if no one claimed it on how to spend my new wealth! HAHA... but seriously I am glad she found it.. she was young and a student and just cashed her payroll check.. she said that was ALL her money.
Another time a lady left her purse in the middle of an aisle at Target... I turned down that aisle and there it was, just sitting there. I picked it up like it had cooties.. like far away from me as if I wasn't trying to take it.. I walked towards the customer service counter and I see her coming.. I knew it was her from the look on her face... Again, she said she had over $1,000 in her purse (I didn't look) and was transferring it to another account. She wanted to give me something and I said no. It ended up that I was behind her later checking out and she bought all my stuff.... she wouldn't take no for an answer...
ANYWAYS, that doesn't help you eh??? I would first try the bank then the school. If no luck then the police.

I'd go with the police station. Mailing it is nice, but the police may stand a chance of finding and notifying the person before they close down every account they own and start ordering replacement IDs, kwim? If you mail it, the person has no idea that it is on the way.

First thing I would do is try to find him on social media, then after that the bank.
