that goes with Thanksgiving dinner? I want to take a bottle to a relatives house, they like reds but I thought white was best with poultry, any suggestions to a wine novice?

I agree with Pinot Noir. Pairs nicely with the range of flavors and spices of Thanksgiving dinner.

Either a Pinot or Vouvray.

I would do a Sauvignon Blanc, specifically Kim Crawford Sauvignon Blanc.
ETA: I just realized you said they like reds. My white recommendation above still stands, but if you'd prefer to take them a red I would go with a Cabernet Sauvignon. It's a full bodied red, but delicious with rich meals and desserts, IMO. I like William Hill's.

If they're wine snobby at all, a Malbec, Sangiovese or Tempranillo are medium-bodied reds that are less obvious than a Pinot. Go to Costco or a good liquor store and pick something with a 90+ rating - you should be able to find something nice in the $20 range.

I would take a cabernet/merlot blend or a malbec. Lots of flavour to go with all the food and sides. That's what we have for Christmas dinner.

I would probably take a red and a white and let people choose. For a white, the Kim Crawford Sauvignon Blanc mentioned above is one of my favorites. I'm not a huge red fan, but if I were taking one as a gift, I would probably go with a Malbec.

If they like reds, stick with a red. Thanksgiving foods are usually very hearty, so red is better than white anyway.
Another option is hard cider. I bought some for my Thanksgiving party last year and it was perfect for the meal. I just got Angry Orchard because we have so many people. But, for a hostess gift, I would get a larger bottle or two of a craft cider.

Don't be afraid to ask for help at the wine shop. Even most grocery stores that have wine selections have someone who will have pairing suggestions.

Instead of gifting a wine to pair with the meal, consider an after dinner drink (eg moscato or port wine, brandy, cognac, scotch) for the hosts to serve (or enjoy after guests leave) on Thanksgiving or a future date.

Yes, they've already planned the perfect wine for the meal, so get them a red wine to enjoy in the future.I love a Cabernet Sauvignon.

New York: I really like the castle grisch rose.
Montana: there are a couple of meads that are quite nice when warmed up.
Washington state: mary hill is very nice. I like all if what they have. So is kiona. Actually I like their ice wine and their Riesling.

I think both red and white go with thanksgiving dinner. Just go to a bevmo or any wine store and pick something up that is at least $20 and rated a 90 or above. If they are wine snobs then go to a higher end wine store and ask them to pick something out.

I live in PA so we can't buy wine in the grocery store and our Costco isn't open yet. We do have some wine shops so I will stop there, thanks for the recommendations. Dinner plans changed and in-laws are hosting the meal so I can go with a cheaper white after all. Thanks everyone.
