We went to a holiday party once and the host family had an invisible fence like setup in their house that kept the cats out of the kitchen and dining room. The wife said she was a little obsessed about cats and counters/tables.
We don't have a cat currently. But our last one wasn't interested in the counters or table.

I may need to try the scat mat. My cats stay away from the kitchen counters but the table is a constant battle.

We don't currently have a cat, but when we did, we would pile 2 empty soda cans on top of each other all around the counter and table. Every time she jumped up, she would knock at least one tower over and the noise it made on the tile floor scared her enough to jump up. We had to leave them up for a couple of months. Sometimes we would hear them fall at night Good luck.

The crinkled up foil was the only thing that kept my dog off my couch! I learned it here. Maybe it works on cats, too?

I've tried every thing to keep ours off the counter but they act like it's their right as king of the castle to sit where they want to. I have a framed cross stitch piece hanging on my kitchen wall that reads "in our house cat hair is a condiment". One good thing is they never get on it when there is food there. They both refuse to eat any kind of people food.

I never had a problem with the cats on any table...until 12 months ago when I bought a new coffee table and that thing is a cat magnet! The new cat is even worse than the existing cat and I must say "off the table" at least 10 times a day.
I'm not sure what they answer, but I suspect our conversations go something like this:

I was going to say "good luck with that". We could always keep our cat off anything... as long as we were sitting right there. However, once no one was home all bets were off. lol
