***Update: I think this may be fastest pet find ever - a gentleman around the corner found him this morning and then saw my Nextodoor post and called us. Bandit is safe and unhurt. First thing after lovin' on him and checking to make sure he was okay, we put his collar with ID tag back on - DS took it off last night to give him a bath and hadn't put it back on. Ugh.
Thanks, everyone, for the positive thoughts. I credit Pea Power with us finding him, too.
----
We got home this evening and coudn't find our 13yo Sheltie, Bandit. We think he may have snuck out the door this morning when one of us was leaving. He's got a bad habit of doing that.
My son is beside himself - Bandit is his constant companion and he, his brother and dad are out searching the neighborhood right now. Considering we lost two pets to illness earlier this year, losing Bandit is just unthinkable.

Based on what I see around here, I would post a photo on any FB group boards you are a part of, and make a lost post on the closest Craigslist board. Then I would call any local shelters and animal control with a description. I hope you find your dog.

I'm so sorry to hear this. Last year when our dog wandered off, I was able to find her via a lost and found pet group on FB. Post a picture so people can be on the look out.
I hope you find your Bandit soon.

I don't belong to any local FB groups, but posted on FB anyway. If we don't find him tonight, I'll be on the phone first thing in the morning with shelters, vets, animal control, etc. L

I hope you find him soon! Please keep us updated.
I read somewhere to put an article of your clothing outside. They can smell it and will come to your scent.

We don't always have tags on our dogs because they can't wear tags in any of the dog rings (agility/obedience). Your post reminded me that some how my puppy has lost his second microchip. I just called our vet and they are going to wand him again and chip him again I have no idea what he does with them, but he was chipped by his breeder and we couldn't find it. And I saw him chipped by my vet and multiple people couldn't find that one that last time we looked for it (last month).

That's one reason we keep a collar and tag on Bandit. He's not a big fan of it, but we can't trust the chip. L
