Lately I've been seeing decorating articles showing elaborate table decorations for Thanksgiving where there are lots of pumpkins, flowers, candles, etc in the center of the table.
I always leave the center of the table table open for food or gravy and sauces. So it got me wondering. Do you have a large centerpiece on your Thanksgiving table? And do you have the food set up elsewhere?
ETA: how perfect that I just happened to reach the akathy honorary "what's for dinner" status with this post. She's smiling down at us.

Yes - I get what's called a roundy moundy, it's a small arrangement that is low to the table, mine comes off when dinner is served. It typically lasts about 2-3 weeks, I love fall flowers.

I always do some type of centerpiece for a holiday dinner -- usually more than one because often use both the table in the dining room and the one in the breakfast room in order to seat everyone. (We serve buffet-style from the kitchen.) I have a slight china/crystal/sterling addiction so I get great pleasure out of picking a pattern for each table and making a lovely tablescape. Thanksgiving centerpieces in recent years have included such items as cornucopias, crystal bowls filled with pomegranates & greenery, vintage Pilgrim figures, old pottery vases with fall flowers, and the like. And always candles. I'm kinda obsessed with table setting!

The last few years I have served buffet style on my kitchen island and I do not have a centerpiece. Sometimes I put some pinecones in a basket on the kitchen table. My dining room table just doesn't get used anymore.

Yes, it's a red and gold bowl from Pier 1 with some fall wood chips and mini wicker balls, and two birds also made from natural stuff.

Yes, I always have a centerpiece.
At Thanksgiving I usually put a runner on the table and make two large Fall colored candles the focal points. All up and down the table runner I place small pumpkins, gourds and carved acorns.
Thanksgiving dinner is always served buffet style, so there is plenty of room on the table for the decorations.

We have 30 usually for Thanksgiving. I serve the meal buffet style, the tables do have flowers and candles. The kids table has mini pumpkins and a small mason jar with some flowers.

I use a white embroidered table runner. I embroidered this many years ago. So pretty on the table.

No. The table is too small.
While I would love to have a decorative center piece for my table in general, I have cats. One of which is a PITA and knocks things off onto the floor.

Serve buffet style because of the crowd, but I always have a centerpiece. Usually fresh flowers -- reward to myself for hosting! I usually keep it low so as not to obstruct anyone's view, or several small arrangements down the center.

It is on the table now - will remove when we eat. The photo shoots are just that.

Yes. It's called food. Lol Ha ha ha! We don't have a formal dining room in our house and the kitchen table isn't big enough to accommodate any frou-frou. Heck, I'm happy if the thing is just cleared off! Usually it's about 1/4 covered with school papers, kid artwork, permission slips that need to be signed and DH's random junk mail that he's not done looking at.

before the table is set, yes. once we start laying out plates and silverware, the centerpieces get moved off. there is barely enough room for all the food and place settings as it is.

I am the same as others, I have one on the table before we sit to eat, then move it to make more room. We don't for buffet because there isn't enough room, so all food is on table.

If it is just family for dinner, no centerpiece because food is on the table. If we are having a crowd, the food is served buffet style on the island and there will be a scatter of decorative bits and pieces (gourds, low candles, etc.) along the center of the table (not a single centerpiece).

I do a centerpiece. The food is placed on the buffet in the dining room and served buffet style.

We rent a community center for Thanksgiving dinner. My SIL and I go decorate the whole place to make it more festive, that includes several centerpieces that stay on the table while eating. They are low and long with some candles of course. The food is served buffet style on the island, but we do put extra gravy's, bread, and seasonings along the tables.
My side of the family: My mother host our dinner still in my family home. She has had the same large turkey looking dish that holds gravy in the center of the table since I was a kid. It's beautiful and we do use it for gravy. I'm amazed that think hasn't broke in all these years. She sets it out on the table about two weeks before Thanksgiving. This thing is pretty large and looks just like a turkey. The table needs no other decorations. LOL!

I got a free appetizer tray from.hallmark that has accents that go well with the tablecloth I bought at hobby lobby.I also bought a gold pumpkin there. So, those are in center of the table now, but will come off before brunch on thanksgiving.

I used to order small flower arrangements for our two tables. I got some really pretty glass containers one year that I saved and reused.
Then one year, I decided to buy flowers on sale at the grocery store and let my girls make the center pieces! I got some floral foam from the floral dept and some taper candles and let them go!
They always turn out so pretty!!

We usually have a few mason jars with baby breath out. On the kids table we have it covered with kraft paper and put out crayons for them to use.

My daughter and son in law have Thanksgiving dinner. This will be the first one in their new house and I am making her a centerpiece as a surprise. I bought some really cute, glittery pumpkins for a quarter at WalMart last week.

No centerpieces for us or anyone else we have ever dined with on Thanksgiving. The tables have always been too heavily laden with food and place settings to spare any real estate to decorative items. Now, sometimes there's a centerpiece out before the table is set. But when it's time to actually eat, the centerpiece is moved to a buffet or a hutch or a counter somewhere.

I bought a large ceramic pumpkin years ago and added the words "Give Thanks". That is as far as I go with a "centerpiece". Sometimes we take it off the table before the food goes on, especially if there's something "pretty" (last year I made a bread cornucopia filled with rolls for the center of the table).
