My least favourite thing about b-day parties is the loot bags.
I'd love a science themed idea since dd's party is at science world. But in the end an inexpensive idea is the most important to me since we have 19 kids. I'm in Canada, so no target available and items tend to be a bit more expensive.
I've done ice cream g/c in the past but they were for $5 and with 19 kids this year I don't want to spend that much. Does anyone think I can get away with less than $5 per kid? Is there something I can make?
I'd prefer no food items. We are in a religious community so some more observant kids have food restrictions.

I'm stumped.
Maybe the home made ooze in a container?
Buy each one a Jules Verne or other science book? You can pick up classics here for $2-$3
What age group- can you pick up those bug houses or magnifying glasses from the dollar store?
Gum drops & tooth picks to build molecules?

Here is a science themed gift bag that you could make up with just parts of it with the matching experiments. if not what about a magnifying glass and/or flashlight? You can get them at the dollar stores here-not sure what is available to you in Canada. Science bag ideas

You can make slime for a small amount and kids love playing with it. It is glue and Borax and can go home in a small jar.

Just don't have one. You are already paying the kid's entrance to an event. Is your DD going to be black listed from future parties if the attendees don't go home with something their mom's are going to throw away at the first opportunity?

Those science backpacks are pretty cute! You could also print something like this and put them in a baggie with instructions and two small colored pencils.

be the mom in your group that finally says 'no more loot bags'
it's a waste of money - and just not necessary - i'd bet all the other moms feel the same way

How about a magnifying glass? Not sure how much one would cost though.
A baggie of goop, slime, flubber, etc. along with the recipe? If you google homemade goop there are recipes.
What is the topic at the science place that you will be learning about? Maybe something like stickers or a coloring book that goes with the theme such as bugs, or animals. Google Dover Little Activity Books. There are lots of different ones and they are not very expensive. Put a book, a pencil and a fake bug (or whatever) in a small clear plastic gift bag, tie with ribbon, and you are done.
Good luck!

Any chance you can just send the kids home with a photo of themselves (with or without your dd) taken at the Science world?
I'd much rather have a pic of my kids than any little trinket or thing that I need to figure out where to store, how to secretly throw out.
And please, for the love of all that is good, don't send them home with something that mom/dad then has to do with the kid. no craft kit. No rock candy experiment.

I wouldn't do a loot bag, they are usually filled with junk.
If you really feel the need to send home "loot"....see if there a gift shop that sells postcards. Usually, post cards run 2 or 3 for a $1.00 dollar. Let each kid pick a couple postcards to take home. Grand total $19 plus tax.

Could you get each kid a pair of science googles? I saw a couple of packs on Amazon. How about a science themed book?

I think slime is the way to go.
Could you premeasure out borax into a baggie, out in a bottle of white glue (my dollar store has 4 for a dollar) and a print out a recipe to make slime? It would be cheap, and it will get played with more than most toys. My daughter would LOVE it. She literally jumped up and down and hugged me one day when I was bringing in groceries and she saw Borax in the bag. Lol.

Please, please don't send home slime. I really would not want that mess in my house unexpectedly. I loved doing that sort of thing with my kids, but only when I was ready for it.
How about making lab notebooks? Plastic test tubes with pencils in it?
Honestly, I gave up on goody bags early on. I really disliked them.
