In April I was diagnosed with Stage III Breast Cancer. I had 6 weeks of chemo, had surgery in August and finally starting 6 weeks of radiation on Thursday! I am anxious to get past this last big step. I still receive an infusion treatment through April but those are a walk in the park compared to everything else!!
Any tips for radiation? Doctor said to rub Aquaphor after treatment every day and I have to do a "breast" exercise to keep scar tissue from adhering to my implant but so far those are my only tips!

A zip up sports bra was something my cousin who is a rad onc tech recommended. I ended up not having rads, but was nervous about the idea because I am so fair skinned and burn so easily. She recommended the zip front sports bra because it would be easy on and off.

I have no experience with this but I'm glad to hear you're progressing so nicely! One step at a time, right?

She recommended the zip front sports bra because it would be easy on and off. I am very fair skinned and burn easily as well so that has been a concern for me too! My doctor told me I could just go braless but that seems like it will feel weird especially at work!! So I will look into a zip up sports bra! Thanks for the suggestion!!

Have no tips but wishingyou well with this final stage. My daughter's boyfriend's mum had her treatment in January this year and apart from tiredness, she had no other side effects . Let us know how you're fairing !

I am sure you are so ready to get started and get it over with! I don't have any experience with radiation in that area...my dad had radiation for brain cancer earlier this year...but I will pray for great success and minimal side effects for you.

I was just at Victory Secrets over the weekend with a friend and she highly recommends the zip front sports bras they have. She tried different brands and these were hands down the most comfortable. She did not have radiation, but had double mastectomy with reconstruction.
My prayers and positive thoughts are with you as you go through this last big hurtle!

I had rad for colon cancer so a bit different, but thankfully the only issues I had were extreme tiredness and stomach issues. Good luck and kick cancers butt!

I had radiation following chemo for breast cancer. I didn't have an implant (lumpectomy) to worry about. I am very fair skinned and I burned badly. I'd like to tell you otherwise but to be honest, it was horrible. Aquaphor is what they gave me and it was somewhat helpful. About 2/3 of the way through the blisters were awful and a kind nurse, who I may have called a bunch of very nice names and wanted to hug and kiss, gave me a small heart shaped pillow and a box of Mepilex. Mepilex is an adhesive dressing that doesn't hurt when you remove it. I was able to keep it on during treatment. It helped my comfort a great deal. I will admit that I accepted the prescription for pain medication and I don't know how I would have survived without it. I had to take two weeks off from work for my burns to heal. The little pillow helped at night since I sleep on my side.
I'm sorry you have to go through this and I hope it all goes quickly and painlessly for you.

The thing with radiation out the tiredness is cumulative, so you may be fine by the end of the first week, but exhausted by the end of the third. Don't try to push through it, that won't work. Best of luck! I had no burning, and I'm that pale Irish girl type.

I did chemo but not rads for my breast cancer. My DH did rads last year when he had cancer and it made him very tired. Learn to say NO and get your rest!!
I lived in zip-up sports bras all through treatment. They were wonderful!! Easy access to my port.
Hang in there!! You're in the home stretch!!

I have had excellent results iwth this burn creme on bad burns from stove and iron - and some folks have said it would likely to wonders for radiation patients. It is made of all natural ingredients like sesame and rhubarb, if I'm remembering correctly. If you try it, I would def. apply it after every treatment. It is brown and doesn't smell the greatest, but it works wonders! Best of luck to you! (((HUGS))) www.springwind.com/catalog/burn-cream

I found radiation to be a piece of cake. I am fair complected (blonde hair, blue eyes) and I only had temporary redness on the radiated area. Fatigue set in eventually, but being tired wasn't a big deal compared to the other stuff (multiple surgeries, chemo, stem cell transplant). Honestly, the worst part of radiation for me were the pinpoint tattoos that marked the area. Those little things hurt (but only for a second). Btw, I had all my radiation tattoos removed & insurance paid for it. Not seeing them on my body was one less reminder of being sick. I highly recommend it. Hope it goes well for you
