I am in a standard poodle Facebook group and we write stories about our dogs, talk about poodles, joke, laugh, cry when one passes and are real fans of the breed.
Today someone in the group posted a photo of what she did at lunch time today. She had 5 little tails lined up that she had just docked and the aftermath of it. I am not afraid of blood or gore but seeing these photos just got to me. She isn't a vet-she's a backyard breeder. My dogs were docked at the vet's office.
I am really upset having seen this. It was really gross. The Admins in the group took the post down thank god but some things you just can't unsee.
It is illegal to dock tails in some Eastern Canadian provinces and it might be illegal in the UK, too.
This might sound completely irrational, but I am really upset and grossed out by what I saw!
Update: I just saw on Global News that it is now ILLEGAL to dock tails in BC! Yay! It just was posted in the last 15 minutes on the news hour. I am so happy to read this!

I'm a big softy when it comes to animals, so I'd be just as upset. I was near tears the other day at a friends house because her little doggy couldn't see, his hair was in the way. He kept bumping into things, his hair completely covered his eyes. She believe in the natural aspect and if a dog is born with hair covering their eyes, then that's how they are supposed to be. I'm a bit like that myself, except when it comes to hair impeding their life quality.

I'm highly opposed to tail docking and ear clipping no matter who does it, so I'd have not been able to keep my yap shut.

omg thats awful! my dog was the runt of the litter so they didn't want to spend the money to dock her tail when she was a puppy - and I'm so glad they didn't!!

If she is too cheap to have him groomed at least pull the bangs back with a hair tie.

I can't imagine docking tails on puppies but we have done it on baby pigs. My FIL always had australian shepherds and said they will chew their tails if they aren't docked. No idea if that's true or not but I've seen it mentioned on Aussie forums as well. We had mini poodles growing up and they were always docked at the vet.

Terrible!
I used to have a toy poodle whose tail was docked too close and caused her some problems. She was already docked when we got her and I had never had a poodle before.
She has been the only dog I've ever had whose breed called for docked tail/nor any of mine have clipped ears. i lean to the side of not having that done.

God didn't intend for many of these current breeds to exist as they do now. a dog with hair in it's face so it can't see would rapidly be killed and soon that breed would not exist. bull dogs and dogs with the extreme nose shortening wouldn't be able to breathe and maintain stamina needed for a hunt or to get food. we made them this way for stupid stylistic reasons, their health and well-being be damned.
ETA oops, could've just said "yeah, that" to myboysnme.

These dogs were bred by breeders to have hair like that! And nature they would never survive because they couldn't see to get prey, and would probably die before they could ever breed. What a ridiculous argument!

Sorry you had to see that. I hate when I have images in my mind I can't get rid of. Praying that one will leave your memory. And how horrible, horrible for those pups. I ache for the innocent (animals, children, etc.).

How awful no one wants to see that. I am against tail docking and ear clipping for a breeders/owners ideas of beauty. If a tail is to be docked it shouldn't be a do it yourself project. I saw a young bulldog at the dog park in diapers. The docking was done wrong and created nerve damage resulting in incontinence for the poor dog.

Those poor pups, can she be reported on abuse? I wondered that same thing! It isn't illegal to dock tails and ears in the US so the photo is just of poor taste and not illegal. It was gross. I won't go into detail as you don't need to read it. It was just gross. She thought she was being "look at all I did before noon" and everyone was telling her how bad she was. The admins of the group took it down luckily. Some things you just can't unsee.

My dogs were docked at the vet's office. So you aren't against the practice per se? I assume it means cutting off tail similar to having a cat declawed?
