Just curious - those who say they would not move to Canada because it is too cold and all that snow. You are joking right? You don't really think we are cold and snowy all the time do you? There are many American states that are colder, get less sunshine and way more snow then Canada. I totally get not moving because it is expensive to move, you would be far away from family, you have a good job where you are. Etc, etc. I live in Canada, it's not cold everywhere in Canada. It was 20C (close to 70F) yesterday. I live 10 minutes from the Canada/US Washington state border, we get the same weather they do. We generally get very little snow here, I think it snowed once last winter, and stayed for 1 day. I was wondering the same thing. Keep in mind for a huge segment of the US, Washington is way too cold and rainy for them - and that's one of the more temperate parts of Canada.

My bigger worry is that I won't be able to afford to live HERE much less immigrate to someplace else. I'm too close to retirement to be able to recover from the coming crash.

I was a contributor to that because as a Canadian in the US, with an American-born son, I wanted to get the paperwork to get his Canadian citizenship and Canadian passport.

I am just hoping he doesn't run this country the way he ran his business. I know someone with personal knowledge of that, and it scares the crap out of me. We (USA) can't default and then bully and threaten our way out of everything. We worry about our pensions and the future of Social Security, things Trump doesn't worry about.

To be perfectly frank, immigrating to Canada is not an easy task and we tend to require more of our applicants than political disenchantment.
Living in Canada is a privilege, not a consolation prize.

To be perfectly frank, immigrating to Canada is not an easy task and we tend to require more of our applicants than political disenchantment. Living in Canada is a privilege, not a consolation prize. I do think most people are throwing that around and not being serious. I have an American friend who married a Canadian. I couldn't believe the amount of restrictions he had in order to become a citizen. If I remember right, he couldn't travel out of the country for a certain amount of time. I honestly haven't looked into either countries processes in great detail. I know it's taken my Canadian friend a while to get things right in the U.S. If you want to live in either country you better have an excellent reason. I could only handle the West Coast in Canada. I'm so over winters in my state and the temperatures are rarely below zero.
