Not just me. The majority of the people in this country.
We wanted change; just like you did with Obama.

I really didn't believe the crazy bastards would elect him. Comments like this are what helped get him elected. People are tired of being called names just because they disagree with you. Deplorables, anyone?

I'm excited to go to sleep as well. I understand people being disappointed - I was disappointed the last two elections. Hopefully looking forward to change. Dh is proud of himself for saying all along trump would win- the rest of our family thought there was no way.

Half the country is excited for change. The rest of you are free to leave at any time so you don't get dragged with us. There was much talk on these boards about people moving to Canada if Mr Trump was elected; that's always an option.

Floored that racism, misogyny, bullying, and racism won that election tonight.
Dark times. So much for it being 2016.

He was right that Americans are dumb. I am just glad that my vote and my state weren't in his win column.

Are you seriously comparing what Trump has actually done to things that someone other than Mrs. Clinton did? Are you saying that you hold a wife responsible for her husband's transgressions? No wonder you voted for Trump. The 50s called, they want your antiquated views of marriage back. She is no more responsible for her husband's actions than I am and it cannot be compared to what Trump actually does. This is 2016, it blows my mind how you can even think that.

The people have spoken, it is what it is.
lauren, & many people like her, are not crazy bastards for who they voted for. Neither am I for whom I voted for.
We have had too much divisiveness and continuing it will do no good.
The only negative thing I'll say is Hopefully now both parties will learn to give us a choice of the best they can offer, because neither party did.

This is not a post to condemn the election results or either candidates. Just my experience tonight.
I feel for the young 1st time voters. So much. That generation is so much more tolerant and ahead of the game than I ever was. It was never really a Democrat/Republican thing for them. Those I know could never condone let alone say some of the things that came out of Mr Trump's mouth. Just those things he said made him ineligible in their minds. Never even got to the issues. Republican vs Democrat never came into play after that. They simply cannot tolerate the words. Words do matter to a lot of people and I think more so to the young who have been raised to be tolerant. Then BOOM! What they hold most important is of no matter. They are CRUSHED, hurt and so confused and haven't the length of life/experiences to separate from that and know we will probably get by this.
There are lessons to be learned. We just don't know what yet.
Being older, I half expected a Republican to win after 8 years. The pendulum usually swings back and forth in correction. But these 2 candidates were a perfect storm. The young adults don't have much hindsight of the past to draw from. I think they are a more evolved generation in many ways and have faith they will make it a better world. Maybe in part because of this election. But it hurts them to their core now and they can't see it or the possibilities of their future. Whatever happens, I want them to know I have all faith in them.
As a side note, after the results and telling myself it will all be ok in the end I was getting to sleep when my DD19 called from college. Crushed. Crying. She said most in her college are dumbfounded.
DD has always been for the underdog and stuck up for those being bullied to the point of breaking up with "friends" in grade school that picked on others. She is going into an occupation to help people with just such troubles among others. I think Trump's words touched her more deeply than some. By nature she couldn't allow herself to support that regardless of the way he fell on the issues. She could not get past his words to see anything else. So I talked her down and now it is past 5am and now I cannot sleep.
Probably more so because of the way my heart aches for her, and others like her, than the election outcome. That hurts more than results of any election could.
So now DD is probably now sleeping soundly and I... not so much.
And within the hour my son will be up (he went asleep before results- on purpose) and I will probably have to lather, rinse, repeat. Love hurts. I did not want Trump to win, another Republican maybe. I was disappointed but the tears didn't come until the after I saw the after effects it is having on the young. My young and their peers.
Forgive my rambling, I ache for them. More so than for myself.

It looks like Clinton may still have got the edge in the popular vote. Moving to awarding electoral votes in proportion to the popular vote within individual states would also have put her ahead based on the figures I'm seeing at the moment (from the BBC, who I think are using ABC's projections)

I can't believe I have to look at that orange asshole for the next four years. Wow, if I had said I can't believe that I have to look at that black asshole for the next four years in 2008, I would have been called every racist name in the book (and rightfully so) so how is this different??? The election is over and Trump is our next president, you can continue with the divisive crap or we can try to come together.

Because I love numbers...
The third party voters could definitely have swung this election. There are 8 states declared so far where if ALL the third-party voters had instead voted for the losing candidate, the result would have been reversed (and yes, I know that's totally unrealistic - although most would have only needed a smaller proportion to switch their vote). None of the other states could have been changed.
Clinton would have lost 4 states with 31 electoral votes. Trump would have lost 4 states with 65 electoral votes. Neither would yet have reached 270, and it would all come down to the last 4 undeclared states
