I'm watching The Kettering Incident on Prime. Everyone is Extremely Mysterious, so much so that I can barely follow the plot, but I'm loving the scenery and cinematography! Who here has been to Tasmania, including Kettering Forest? I know we have a Pea who lives in Tasmania. Is it cold or chilly most of the time? Or is there a warm/hot season? Is it easy to spot the Aurora, like in the show? I know it's not called the Aurora Borealis, should have googled first. Aurora Australis? Lol idk. Just curious, because I want to plan a sort of "bucket list" trip to somewhere interesting. I'm not sure I'll ever get there, but it looks so beautiful. Yes, I could Google, but wondered if anyone here has any insight. Also it's nice to talk about something besides the election. PS for anyone who watched it, does this show ever end up making sense?

I watched it, enjoyed it, and stayed perpetually a bit confused the entire time. Having said that, I really liked it. More back story is revealed as the series unfolds. One thing I liked about it was, you are never really sure which characters are "bad" and which are "good." They are all flawed in some way. As you might already suspect, don't expect everything to be wrapped up in an orderly and logical way.
Hope this was helpful. I'm trying to discuss it without giving away any spoilers.
If you are liking it, you might also want to watch "Fortitude." It's similar and also very addicting.

I haven't watched The Kettering Incident, but I have visited Tasmania.
It is so beautiful! We went in March, and the weather was perfect, warm days, cool nights. The day we went up Mount Wellington, near Hobart, it was pretty chilly up there on the mountain top, but otherwise we dressed in layers, and were very comfortable.
Some of my favorite places that we visited were Freycinet National Park and Wine glass bay, Bicheno, Launceston (Cataract Gorge reserve was lovely), Cradle Mountain (fantastic scenic hiking), Strahan, and the Franklin Gordon Wild Rivers National Park (this area is very remote and beautiful). Hobart is a really nice city, with a beautiful harbour, city life, markets etc.
I can't remember anything about the Aurora, but I am sure someone else will chime in on that one.

I am the Tasmanian Pea!!
It is a stunning part of the world to live in. The Kettering incident certainly showcases the beauty of here. Weird story though. I still don't think I understand the ending 😀😀
If you are ever down this way call in for a wine or two and I will show you all around.

I'm an Aussie with Tasmania on my list. I have a couple of friends who live there and it is an incredibly beautiful part of the world. Apart from the scenery, the food is apparently incredible - seafood, meat, cheeses....
Z*G they do have 4 seasons and it can get quite warm in Summer but nothing like some parts of Australia. For example, I live in a pretty hot part of Aus so I've done a comparison Mildura Summer 32C/90F Winter 17C/62F Hobart Summer 21C/69 Winter 13C/55F It can still get up into the 90+ temps in Summer but that is quite rare.

DSO and I started to watch The Kettering Incident but about 10 minutes in, when we realised it was going to be kind of supernatural in nature, we lost interest and didn't watch another episode. Tasmania is beautiful. I think of it as a bit like New Zealand in a lot of ways. Although to be honest it is a bit too cold for me. Where scrapalotomous lives is warmer than down south in Hobart where AllieC mentioned. DSO and DS are going to Tassie for 3 weeks just after Christmas. I may go along for a week depending on whether I can get time off work, and then whether I can get a boat or flight across.

OMG...I just started watching this the other day and am only two episodes in. After the first five minutes of the first episode, I had to pause it and go google information on Tasmania. I am somewhat ashamed to admit that I had no idea where it was or any history. My only reference I had was the Tasmanian Devil. Thanks Looney Tunes and geographical ignorance.
It looks like such a beautiful but haunting place. I'm quite confused by the plot line right now and even though the accents aren't really thick, once in awhile I have difficulty understanding the dialogue. I am also struggling with relationships between the various characters.
When I initially clicked on it, I thought Kettering referred to Ohio. That's where my husband is from so I thought I'd check it out.

I also watched Top of the Lake, set in Taz, and that was a good show though a bit odd. I remember watching the Crocodile Hunter going through a forest in Tasmania, and I've read a few books set there including Into That Forest (I think that's the name, it's about Tasmanian tigers, his book).
Anyway, I'm really wanting to visit, maybe I'll make it someday!

The new release movie "The Light Between Oceans" is mainly filmed in Tasmania - in a town called Stanley on the North West coast.
Our climate is awesome. Not too cold and not too hot. Summer is usually in the mid 20's to low 30's and Winter the days are in the low teens mainly. (my units of measure not yours LOL)
I live in the North of the state and where I am in Winter I can be snow skiing in 45 minutes and summer I can be at a pristine beach in 45 minutes. The Kettering Incident is filmed down south which in reality is only 3 hours from my house.
Tassie is small and quiet. Population of around half a million people only. Beautiful people, low crime, great food and wine, gin, whisky and beer.
DH and I drove down the Kettering way a few months ago. The show is a bit loose on locations and their proximity to each other. It is actually filmed over quite a large area. The Island you see the ferry go to is called Bruny Island and is one of the most beautiful places to visit. Their cheese and wine is to die for.
I have som photos but can't work out how to post them. I thought you could use a facebook URL thing - but that might have been the old board.
The aurora is fairly common at certain times of the year. I have seen it in brilliant red curtains of light that would take your breath away. Need to be out of town to really see it though.
Anyhow - if you or any other Pea is ever down under and gets to Tassie I would love to meet up for a good old chinwag!

We went there in February last year and did a one week campervan tour. We need to go back and do the western side because we just didn't get to it all. My favourite areas were Cradle Mountain and Bay of Fires. The Huon Valley was very pretty too. I haven't seen the show but here are some pics from our trip. I hope these aren't too big. We camped next to the beach here. This was at sunrise. Cradle Mountain Bay of Fires Gilly.

I have worked it out! The photo below is taken from the other side of the big mountain you see in the show. It is looking down on Hobart which is where the hospital is if you are up to that bit. The two below are taken in the forest near Kettering. It was a really crappy rainy day but I suppose that makes it look more like the show anyway. A girl I know played the mother of the child with the markings. The one who lived out of town in the bush. I don't think she understood the show in the end either!

Another traveller to have visited Tasmania. DH and I went there in November and it was just lovely weather - beautiful sunny days with cooler nights which were good sleeping weather.
The scenery, the people and just the way of life was wonderful. We wished we could have stayed much longer and do intend to go back. To us it is certainly worth a second visit.
