No, not a hair flip. I'm not creative enough for that. I'm just not interested in all of the political threads. No, I don't think they need a separate board. You all are more than welcome to discuss as you will, I just have no interest in reading them, and I never post on them. Yes, I can just scroll by, which I do, but over the last week, or so, the threads have multiplied, and most of the non-political threads I've already read. So, I think I just need a break. It will be fun to come back, and have a lot of new material to read. In the meantime, for all of the birthday threads I miss, unless I check in just for those, . 🙂

Take your break and enjoy. The election JUST happened and people are still reeling good and bad. The drama will die down and the fluffier threads will return.

Me too. This has been a fun diversion from real life but it isn't so much fun anymore. It may be time for me to crawl under my rock for a few weeks, months or years. I came here for years to relax and laugh and support others. Lately I seem to leave here each day filled with anxiety. Best wishes to all of you for a happy, healthy and prosperous future.

I don't blame you, Kiki. I promised myself that on Nov 9 I would ignore all political threads no matter what happened. But it's almost hard to find any other threads now. Hopefully it will die down soon.

I think there will be fewer political posts each day. Tomorrow will probably be much tamer than today.

I hope I have the discipline, I am addicted I feel I need a break, but soon the "what to give" threads will start and I love the inspiration. As I recall you've sparked some great gifts for my DH KikiPea. Please don't stay away too long!!! And at least two recipes are now family staples! I'd miss you RefuPeas whether it's from former lurkdom days or daily participation.

I feel ya. I wanted to avoid political Posts but there's not that many options... Those of us not interested in the political posts need to start more threads about other subjects! I did try bumping a post about Christmas gifts today with a question and it got absolutely no response. Perhaps people are just worn out from all the vitriol and name calling and have already taken a break. Save

I hear you. I have avoided so much of the political stuff on facebook and on the peas. I was SOOOOO looking forward to today as I was expecting all of that would be over. Instead, it al seems like there is more hate and name calling. It used to be the candidates that were the target. Now it seems to be the citizens.
So many ads and posts about candidates calling names and the example set for the children. How is it appropriate for non-candidates to be name calling? How is that a better example for kids than trump name calling?
As for the candidates themselves, I would not want to spend time with either of them. So you cannot pin this view on my being a supporter of either one.
ETA: From listening to Hillary's speech & Obama's speech this morning, I got the impression that they both realize that there is a significant number of voters who feel alienated and are unhappy with how our political system works at this point. It is unfortunate that their supporters do not seem to have done the same. Shouldn't we ALL be of equal importance and not just the ones that agree with you?

Take your break and enjoy. The election JUST happened and people are still reeling good and bad. The drama will die down and the fluffier threads will return. I agree with this. You can't expect everyone to just flip a switch on the day after, especially with this election. Sometime it takes people a little time to work through their feelings...good or bad. And it sometime helps to talk about it with people whether it is online, irl, with friends, with strangers, with enemies, etc. That is what many use this board for, to talk about and process thing that effects their lives. And after 500+ days of living with this election it may take some time put it behind us, and for some it may take years. But life does continue on and the holidays are right around the corner, so I am sure other threads will be back soon. enjoy your break if you feel that is what you need. The nice thing about an online message board is you can use it/participate in it however you like and for whatever reasons you like, but ultimately when it starts to adversely affect you have the ability to step away...not something that you can always do in real life.

No-one should be castigated for that. And to get very slightly political, be the change you wish to see in the world . As **GypsyGirl** said, if you want more non-political threads, start them - once you're back from your break

It is kind of raw right now KikiPea for a few of us, but I think in a few days it will all be back to normal. The more regular posts, the better as far as I'm concerned.

I'm with KikiPea. I'll still check in with my reading and what's for dinner friends, but I'm taking a short break too.
Of course I can't speak for the OP, but like me I doubt she expects everyone to "flip the switch" immediately. Of course everyone who wants to discuss should feel free to do so...it's just so overwhelming at present. I've read a few political threads and I just don't see anything constructive or new being discussed. Just my opinion and I'm exercsing my choice to scroll on by and read other things.
It will eventually calm down and I still love this online community and want to be part of it.

I'm starting to feel the same way KikiPea. My opinion of many peas that I admired or at least just liked over the years have completely changed because of this election, and that really bothers me. But I feel with their gloating about voting for a bullying predator, their mask has come off and they aren't the people I thought they were. So it's rather disconcerting to read their non-political posts and know of the vitriol and hatred they carry in their hearts. How else could they have voted for that hateful man? So now everything is tainted. I can't block everyone, so it's probably better if I just find some other board to pass my time. Not a hair flip either, just sick and tired of hatred being so acceptable to some peas that they gave it legitimacy by voting it into power.

Unfortunately some of the crazy folks on this board aren't going anywhere. I have two people on ignore, and it makes it so much more pleasant. Me too. And on Facebook I did the same - put some family members on ignore and weeded out the non-family big mouths altogether. I also agree that that it is still raw, and I think it's healthy for people to discuss and process. In a week or so, hopefully things will be a little less toxic.

KikiPea and Dalai Mama, I am a big proponent of taking a break from here when being on the board gives your more stress than support/pleasure, so understand. I will miss you both and will look forward to seeing you when you're feeling recharged and in a different place.
