I hope I don't regret making this post. I usually stay out of all the political discussions. I wish we had a more moderate party. It seems like the Democratic and Republican parties have become so extreme. You are either a pro-choice, anti-gun liberal or a pro-life, gun loving conservative. Well, I'm neither of those. I'm pro-choice, support gay marriage, and I think that that our current gun laws are reasonable and that restricting the right of citizens to purchase firearms anymore is not the answer to our crime problems. There have to be more people like my Dh and myself who are fiscally conservative yet socially liberal. We would not vote for Trump or Clinton. I know many see that as throwing away your vote, but I see it more as sending a message that says give me someone I can stand behind and vote for with a clear conscience. It almost seems like so often that people are fixated on one issue and vote for the candidate that supports that one thing instead of looking at it as a whole. Anyway, just some thoughts this morning. If this thread goes badly I will have to go back to only answering Disney World questions. If you have any feel free to ask. I love discussing Disney.

I agree with you! No matter my vote, my state was going to Trump so I could feel free to vote my conscious.

Oh, I definitely agree that our current 2 party system isn't working well for many people. Far too much effort and funding is spent battling against one another than truly working together to better life for everyone in the US.
I would love, love, love a viable 3rd party option.

Totally agree which is why I voted third party this time....my conscience is clear and I don't have buyer's remorse.
I just hope and pray that all the Trump supporters don't either...and I would be saying the same thing had HRC won because I don't think she was any better of an option.

If you run, I will vote for you based on your platform. What do you say?

as far as I remember, most libertarian candidates are socially liberal and fiscally conservative leaning. that's how I am, and that's the party that always comes up for me in "who should I vote for" tests.

This election cycle, more than any other in my memory, clearly demonstrated the need for more political parties. Both major parties are more interested in staying in power than in really helping Americans. A strong third party would force them to compromise and share common goals.

I'm with you...even if you want to go back to just discussing Disney. Or Universal.

I agree! I don't feel like I belong with either party. I am a registered Republican but vote Democrat this and last election. I am more moderate, look at both sides and agree/disagree with both. I don't like extremes in either party. I feel socially I am more liberal and fiscally more conservative.

If you run, I will vote for you based on your platform. What do you say? Thanks! No way do I have the stomach to ever run for office. The ones who do and actually work to serve the public rather than their own ego, well, my hats off to them. Hard job.

You have that already. It's called libertarians. Gary Johnson was your guy. Sadly he failed to get the 5% needed for federal funding for the next election. Hopefully, next time around Bill Weld will be the first choice, I think he's smart and level headed.

I wish somehow people could really get behind a third party as a viable option. You would have thought if it ever would happen it would have this election with so many unhappy with both Clinton and Trump.

My hope is that, at the least, this election serves as a wake up call to both parties. And even better is if it gives rise to another viable party...and maybe a 4th and 5th party.

That's exactly why I have been voting third party on the last two presidential elections.

In theory it sounds nice, but just not practical. My entire lifetime every election people voting 3rd party have taken votes away from the Democrat. What we should do instead is emphasis the importance of voting in the primaries. People don't understand that you pick your president during the primaries, that is a much more important election, yet much less people come out for it. If more people came out you could have had Kasich or Rubio on the ballot instead of the buffoon.

Personally I'd love to get rid of parties altogether and have all our politicians run as Independents; further more I would love a system where they could be evaluated yearly and fired if they are failing at the job they are elected to do. Would probably never have a Chance of seeing the light of day, but if I had the power to make it so, that's what I'd do.
*****Please note that I'm my Kindle, so I'm giving an extremely simplified statement of what I wish would happen (I'm not a skilled one finger typist..... 😸 lol)*****

Personally I'd love to get rid of parties altogether and have all our politicians run as Independents; Since the big two are so awful, I would love this, too. It's even more unlikely than strong third (and fourth, etc.) parties, but we need an alternative to the dreadful duo we've got now. But unless people are really willing to push it and not give up, the RNC and DNC will continue to push the (false) notion that more parties won't work. They have a monetary interest in perpetuating that myth.

I am also not a Democrat or Republican. I would love a third party that is moderate and reasonable. I don't think Johnson was either of those (sorry!). I voted for Clinton because I still feel she was the best choice (and the most moderate) of the options I had. But I am definitely fed up with both parties. I think the Libertarians would have got their 5% if Weld had been top of the ticket.

No matter how I voted my state was and did go to Hillary So I was able to vote for a third party candidate and know it didn't matter. I have voted for gay marriage, for some gun regulations and against other gun regulations.

I couldn't vote in my states primary because I'm not affiliated with a party. Based on my fiscal leanings I would not have voted for a democrat.
