:sob: He was my favourite. I first came across a book of his poetry when I was nine years old, and I fell in love with it. I didn't understand a damn thing in it. It certainly wasn't appropriate. I can't even tell you how many times I have read his books since. An embarrassing number, to be sure. I bought his newest album when it came out. I was probably two minutes into it, and I teared up and told my husband he was dying. Can it be possible for a morbid Cohenesque harbinger of an album to be an even more morbid harbinger? I guess it can He lived a good life, wrote great poetry and music, and will be so missed. I met him once in a hotel elevator. I was nine months pregnant, carrying my massage table over my shoulder in a case and pouring sweat. He said "Ladies purses just keep getting bigger these days." I told him they were quite popular in Paris and he laughed this deep laugh of his that made up for the fact that I was hugely pregnant and pouring sweat on the day that I met Leonard Cohen. I'm not one to be starstruck, and I'm not one to get upset when celebrities die, but Leonard Cohen is definitely the exception to that.

He was a true original and so talented. Bowie, Prince and now Cohen. I hate 2016.

This seems especially poignant given the current climate of the U.S.

I adored him. I adored his lyrics, his beautiful melodies, and his wonderful self-deprecation. i admired the music of Prince, Bowie et al who have all gone this year, but I loved Lenny, and I am so sad right now.

Such a loss. My high school drama teacher introduced me to Mr. Cohen and I am forever thankful.
