I am looking to buy someone a Christmas present. She is almost done with school to be a teacher. She has said several times how she doesn't need any more stuff for herself but would instead like things for her future classroom. What are you best ideas? I am even open to games/manipulative. She doesn't know what grade she will be teaching but is hoping for a younger grade and I know she will need things for all levels of students.

Gift card to a local teaching store or maybe a gift card to Target/Walmart. You spend so much of your own money when you set up a classroom.

A gift card to a teacher supply store is always appreciated - you never know what will be in the classroom she moves in to.

I would also go with a gift card, especially because she doesn't know what grade she'll be teaching. If you don't like the idea of giving *just* a gift card you could put it in a nice basket and then include things like some nice pens, cute post-its, binder clips, markers, etc. Or do the gift card along with a "gag" gift like a Costco sized case of tissues. lol. Believe me, those won't go to waste!

This laminator is a great deal. I had two--one at home and one at school--and I don't even want to think about how many laminating pouches I went through LOL. I like the "reverse" button on this one, because if something starts going through crooked, you can back it up and start over. If you have a Sam's Club near you, you can get a package of 200 laminating pouches for about $21.00, which makes it just barely over 10 cents per page to laminate. Because it is 8.5 x 11, I never had to trim the sheets when I was laminating whole pages, which is a nice time-saver, and the film is much heavier than the typical big-roll laminating film you get at the school. Of course, you are limited to letter- or legal-size pages, but I don't know what I would have done without mine.

The schools often have/provide some manipulatives, so it may not be a good idea to purchase those until she knows where she will teach and what they have. Besides manipulatives and school curriculum books, the schools usually don't give the teachers anything to make the classroom that we see when we walk in. The teachers usually pay for their bulletin boards materials, classroom posters, basic office supplies, class tissues, dry erase markers, etc. They also often pay for unique lessons on sites such as teachers pay teachers. A gift card may be a good idea, or basic supplies to create bulletin boards, posters, and comfortable spaces in the room. Other good ideas may include organizational tools for student supplies, plastic baskets for papers, file folders out the wazoo, ziplock bags of all sizes, magazine files, stickers and stamps for student work, etc. I know my first year, I looked online and purchased a ridiculous number of things from given lists and my room was still threadbare and uninviting. My students said it was like visiting a morgue. Lol. I know that Target (dollar spot) and DollarTree have many of the items at a reasonable price. Do you know if she has any ideas of what she wants her room to look like?

If you don't want to do a gift card I would get a pencil organizer for her desk and put in: Sharpies (fine and medium point) Mr. Sketch markers (seriously the best)-you can get thick and thin ones (thick ones won't fit but thin ones do) Papermate InkJoy pens Ticonderoga pencils Good scissors Good stapler-I bought myself a new one and I simply love it! Binder clips Those can be used for any grade level. I seriously love my organizer. I love having good things to write with

I was going to post the same pencil sharpener. Even if her classroom has one, this is better. A GOOD stapler. I have one in my desk that I pet from time to time. My students rarely get to use that one. Post it notes Post is small pads with lines Pens Smelly expo marker (love these, I but a new set each quarter, I do teach Hisham school though and they know not to eat them)

Ex teacher here - I like the gift card idea. I also bought tons of decorative bits and pieces from Dollartree to decorate my classroom. They have a special teacher section with some cute stuff to include in a basket with a gift card.

If she is left brained, get her a label maker.

A gift card to the Teachers Pay Teachers site would probably be appreciated.

Liquor? Just kidding. Sorta.
I have a little Thirty-One bag I carry to recess with all my recess essentials. It is the "Littles Carry All." I would do that, $12.00 with a matching lunch box.
In the little bag I keep tissue packs, my whistle, bandaids, hand sanitizer, a few pairs of latex gloves, and a few ziplock bags for trash. This has saved me many times. I love that my water bottle and recess radio can also fit inside it.
That would be a nice gift.
I also really like their fold and file bag for my desk and small group table.

Btw....I am not a thirty-one consultant. I was just trying to think of things I use that solve a problem. Things others might not think of.
