I'll be in San Diego the middle of January with my DH and my parents from Friday afternoon to early evening Saturday what would you do? Things to do/see, places to eat, etc...

If you have never been to San Diego the Trolley tour is a great idea for Saturday. I'd start in Old Town and it is a hop-on, hop-off tour that will hit the highlights going from Coronado Island to Balboa Park and many points in between. We took it when we first moved here and spent a couple of hours on Coronado checking out the Hotel del Coronado and having lunch before getting back on the tour. Leroy's Kitchen & Lounge is a great place to eat. We like their bites menu and share. Micro breweries are big and our favorite is Stone Brewing. They have a location at Liberty Station although we prefer the original restaurant/brewery in Escondido. Segway tours are another option. Another couple of great places to explore are the Midway Museum and the Maritime Museum. Other favorite restaurants are Great Maple, Snooze for breakfast, and Puesto for tacos.

I'm not sure how active your parents are or what you're all interested in, but the sea cave kayak tours in La Jolla are a lot of fun.
If you don't have a rental car and you want to stay close to the city, bc2ca gave excellent advice. In fact, I'm jotting a few things down since we recently moved here and I'm so overwhelmed with everything there is to do that I can never figure out where to go for food or a fun activity when people visit us!
Edited to add that I forgot about the San Diego Zoo. January is a fantastic time to visit the zoo because crowds are thinner and the weather is cooler, which makes walking around much easier.
I could do a whole weekend in Balboa Park alone (which is where the zoo is located). There's so much to look at, and tons of museums.

Balboa Park is a great suggestion.
We loved the Midway and Maritime Museum.
Croce's is a great restaurant. It is full of Jim Croce memorabilia and they play his music. The scallops were to die for.

We are America's Finest City ... just come to the beach and walk around and have breakfast at Kono's on the pier. If you make it to Balboa park, try to see the LITTLE HOUSES they are delightful

We will be in SD in March for a few days so I'm taking note of these ideas. Thank you! We will have a 7 & 10yo boys, me, SO, and SO's mom. I really want to go to Coronado Island since I missed it my last visit.
