I've never served alcohol on thanksgiving but I have several bottles of champagne left over from my kids wedding sitting in the garage fridge. I have family coming to my house from 10 am on & dinner is about noon so the young folk can go on to inlaws dinners.
What is a good ratio of champagne/orange juice?

We do them for Christmas morning. We don't measure but I'd say pretty close to equal parts.
Also if you don't want mimosas but something not too different:bellinis (sp). It's champagne with fruit puree, peach, raspberry etc

The up and coming thing is Apple cider and champagne. Well that sounds yummy and I might have to replace the mimosas with that! I usually eyeball it and make them about 1/2 and 1/2. You can fancy the mimosas up and add a little Chambord or some peach puree. SaveSave

Really it can be whatever you want. We've always had mimosas on New Year's Day and we've made them for the kids when they were younger with orange juice and a splash of champagne. Then the adults get the real thing, but with as much champagne as they want.

Half and half is standard.
When I want to make mine especially fancy, I add a splash of Chambord and a few frozen raspberries per glass.

I've put a spoonful of strawberry or raspberry puree in the glass before the orange juice and then at the last minute the champagne. It makes a nice effect. The frozen raspberries that Spongemom Scrappants mentioned also look really pretty in the glass. My niece did a Bellini bar for my other niece's bachelorette. It was fun, she had 4 or 5 juices, a couple fruit purees and the champagne. It was nice to make our own and be able to experiment with the different flavours.

You can always do a mimosa bar. Have the Champagne in an ice bucket and then have several types of juice and other liqueurs (if have/want them like kir, st. Germain, grand marnier, etc.)
That way if people can control the ratio and you don't have to be making custom drinks while trying to cook.

If I was hosting the in-laws, I'd be all over it! I think Mimosas sound like a great start to Thanksgiving.

We do champagne punch at thanksgiving. Equal parts champagne and white grape juice with various sliced up fruits in the pitcher. Usually oranges lemons and strawberries, but I've used kiwis and grapes as well. Whatever is on hand! Always a big hit and very light and refreshing!

I've never thought about them for Thanksgiving! I will so be doing this next year when I host my family.
I do a Christmas brunch every year for both families and I always think mimosas would be so good but DH's family would have a fit if I served alcohol.
My family on the other hand has no problem consuming alcohol!

I just want to know, what time are you serving the mimosas? My Dad usually gets here about 11 with the turkey so 30 minutes before that! One year, he called me at 10 am and told me that the electricity at his house was off and he couldn't finish cooking the turkey so he hoped I had a plan B. I was in a panic! I should have known he was pulling my leg. He is a joker that one. Gotta love him. That's why I'd consider mimosas before he got here! Great ideas, ladies! Thanks!

More OJ than champers just to be safe...cautionary tale as follows. I hosted my first Thanksgiving many years ago and had the family over for brunch, mimosas and board games, to be followed by dinner. I was having so much *fun* I forgot to put the turkey in the oven! My parents arrived around 4pm and my mom said "I don't smell the turkey cooking." We put it in in the oven, cranked up the heat and ate a very late dinner. Luckily we had lots of snacks and appetizers to carry us through. I've been reminded of my blunder every Thanksgiving and Christmas for the past 17 years. Oh yay.

Since we eat early - around noonish - so the young folks can go to in laws houses after, everything is usually cooked the day before or very early. By the time everyone brings their dishes to my house...it's just warm up. Since we are telling Tday stories.... I've mentioned here before that I've been hosting for 25 or so years and both my DH's and my family comes. At one time, we were the only married couple in the bunch! It has been good for my kids and my nieces to see all their grandparents and great grandparents be friendly with the new spouses.... Everyone has always gotten along, told fun stories and brought delicious food. My father's last wife (of several!) was particularly helpful to me in the tiny kitchen I have and a good cook, to boot. Well, last year, my father, whom I love dearly but know he is a terrible husband, decided to divorce her! So, I'll be missing her at Thanksgiving dinner! We weren't really that close, but always friendly. Gah! Now I have to learn to make cornbread dressing for the first time! I'm starting to practice tomorrow. I have neighbors lined up to be my tasters...

My mom and I always have mimosa thanksgiving morning.
Last year on New Year's Eve, we made them with orange sherbet- they were so good! We even indulged and had them again for New Years brunch!
