Hey everybody, we are building a house! Kitchen design and cabinet quality & look are most important to me although there is a budget. Boooo!
Who has ideas where to start? So many options and I need some direction. Any cabinet brands you've found to be reasonable? Help!
Thank you!

I know you have a lot on your plate with the build but you might want to also consider custom. A coworker got a quote from a regional discount home improvement center for kitchen cabinets. Then she got a bid from a small custom shop for cabinets. The small shop was $2000 less for better quality.
I, personally, would avoid Merrilat cabinets. I have them in my kitchen and they have not stood up well.
Good luck with the build. How exciting!

IKEA! I loved my Ikea kitchen. I'm planning on building a kitchen extension next year, and it will definitely be fitted with Ikea units, worktops, and maybe even appliances.

I have KraftMaid cabinets from Home Depot in my kitchen. We have maple cabinets in the kitchen and a cherry vanity in the bathroom. They are sturdy and solid and I have not a single complaint about them.

We used an Amish company to custom make our cabinets. Not one inch of wasted space, no fillers as it was made to order. Came in less than HD and Lowes and much much less than any of the kitchen design showrooms we looked at. It is a very high quality kitchen. 10 years later every door and drawer still in line and working great.

Everyone I know that has the IKEA cabinets think they are the best thing ever. When we finally redesign, I'm going to IKEA. Lots of bang for the buck.

At our last house we put in Medallion Cabinetry. It's a semi-custom cabinet. They were good quality and I loved that kitchen. They were pricey. I think we could've done totally custom for what they cost.
Our current house we had a cabinet maker do custom. Honestly the price for custom was not far off from semi-custom. (Our kitchen is 20 x 15!) Plus I got to design exactly what I wanted. With semi-custom you have to fit their measurements into your space.
In our mailroom and coffee area at my work, they have KraftMaid. Those cabinets get a LOT of abuse and they have held up really well.

We used the design service at a kitchen and bath store. Her help was invaluable. I suggest seeking help outside of the peas for your new kitchen.

We also have Merrilat cabinets but I adore them (we got the middle-of-the-line option.) Our designer used every inch of our kitchen when we upgraded and I got all of the features I wanted/needed - taller cabinets, pantry, built-in microwave - there is no wasted space in my kitchen and I love it.

We had our cabinets custom made by the contractor. It was less expensive than ordering and the quality was better. It also allowed me to have higher end design features I couldn't have afforded otherwise.
We are about to start the master bath/bedroom remodel in January and will have him make all the cabinets once again.
