I am getting ready to book a trip to WDW next Fall and am torn between staying at Coronado Springs or Contemporary. Our kiddos will be 5 and just shy of 3 years old. I feel like I'm wanting to stay at Coronado Springs--and I like the moderate price point much better-- but I am wondering if the extra money for the Contemporary is worth it for the more convenient location. I plan on having us hit the parks in the morning, and then back to the hotel in the afternoon for rest time for the kids, and then maybe head back to the parks later on. With this amount of back and forth, I'm worried that a half hour of travel time each way (buses) is going to be a bit much.
I would love to hear opinions/advice from those who have been there/done that!
Thanks in advance!

I've stayed at both and love both for different reasons. Coronado Springs has a much better pool. The buses only service that hotel, and they come pretty frequently. For the price difference, you could probably add several days to your trip. The negative is that it is big. I felt like my room was in a maze, but it was under construction at the time and they kept blocking different paths in and out, so that added to the maze-ness. I would request a preferred water view to get closer to the main building on a water side to increase the chances of a better location.
There is little better in life than standing on the balcony of a Contemporary tower theme park view watching the castle at night. I don't think I would want a balcony with little bitty kids though. Between the monorail and walking to MK, the transportation is great.
I'm no help....I would recommend setting a budget and desired trip length then seeing which option fits better.

If you can afford the price difference the Contemporary will be a much better choice. If you do stay at a moderate resort you may want to look at some of the other moderate resorts. Coronado is their conference resort and I don't think it's nearly as nice as most of the other moderate resorts. My personal choice for a moderate resort would be Port Orleans. The monorail access to Magic Kingdom and Epcot is very convenient at any of the monorail resorts. Our favorite resort overall is the Polynesian, though we have not stayed at the Contemporary.

Being able to walk to the Magic Kingdom and watch fireworks from your balcony at the Contemporary is great, especially if you have young ones who might not be up for night park time. You do ride the monorail around the long way and stop a few times before MK, but kids usually love the ride anyway. It's great to be one quick stop away when you are done! The Contemporary pool is not much, and some say a room closer to Chef Mickey's is too noisy, but you can request to be away from there. The price is steep though. Honestly with kids that age I would consider Art of Animation, a bit more room if you get a suite, and the theming and pools are amazing.

Contemporary if you have the extra money. Especially with small children who may need a break or nap from Magic Kingdom quickly without the added wait time for buses. Coronada is a convention center/conference space even for local businesses and Disney to use just for day events, not just for groups coming in from outside the state so it can have a business feel to it. We LOVE the Polynesian and the Grand Floridian is nice too.
Enjoy your trip!

Contemporary can't be beat for MK access. You can even walk if you don't want to wait on the monorail. It's just a little bit farther than the bus stops. With kids, the monorail is the first "ride" if the day, so it's worth waiting.
Coronado springs is huge. I was there for a convention and it felt a lot less Disney than the other resorts. I'm not a pool person, so I can't speak to that.
My favorite moderate resort is Port Orleans. I like Caribbean Beach as well, but I haven't stayed there in almost 15 years, so can't speak to it's current state.

If you can afford the price difference the Contemporary will be a much better choice. This. We stayed at the Contemporary every year when I was little (and I've since stayed there as an adult, but our "home base" is actually the Wilderness Lodge with our Vacation Club. The Contemporary is awesome though! And Chef Mickey is inside! SaveSave

With children that small I vote for the Contemporary. It's nice to be so close and be able to easily to take an afternoon break for a nap/swim time.

The Contemporary, hands down. Much easier access to the MK.
As far as moderate resorts, Caribbean Beach or Port Orleans -French Quarter would be my choices.

I think Coronado and Carribbean Beach are pretty equivalent resorts-we preferred the food choices as Carribbean Beach when we researched. I think the layout was better. I know Carribbean Beach has its own busses, so it rarely took long to go back and forth. Not sure about Coronado. I guess my point is that I wouldn't pay extra for proximity.

At your kids' ages, I think the Contemporary is worth it for the monorail location. You can come back to your room more easily for things like naps. But, I will say that the pool at Coronado Springs is fantastic -- it's one of the best on property -- and your kids would love it. That said, be aware that CS is also Disney's "convention" resort, so it's typically filled mostly with adults.

When the boys were little, we generally hung out at the Contemporary. It was nice to be close enough to zip back for naps, or bad attitude time outs (sometime the kids just get over stimulated and wound up and need to have some quit time.)
One of the best parts was to get to the monorail early and the kids have a chance to ride up front with the driver. The get a special badge thing too. The best one was the time we went to Epcot so got got to sit up front for a really long time (you only get to ride to your stop, so if it's a close park, it's a short ride. )

They don't?? That's too bad. It was one of the boys favorite parts of Disney.

Thank you all so much for your replies! I still don't know what I am going to do, but you all have given me much to think about!
I'm a bit overwhelmed thinking about having to book fast passes, meals and other experiences so far in advance when it's impossible to know what days my kids will be ready for more and what days they will be totally done, which is why I am placing so much value on convenient transportation.
Anyways, I super appreciate all of the comments!

Plan to be there early for rope drop and then leave a little before lunch. Plan to be back in the park around 3. Plan at least one day that you don't go to a park until after lunch. Day 3 is usually good for that, and Animal Kingdom is a good park to do on a short day. If you use these as rough guidelines to set up your reservations, you will be fine.

This is definitely what we're planning on doing. I just don't want to be the family on the bus with kids having total meltdowns! Trying to make it relatively low key for both the kids sake and ours.
