Anyone have issues with the battery not staying charged? My son's phone will literally drop over 50% in less than an hour and not even using the phone. Took it to Verizon and since it's out of warranty wants to charge us $150 to replace, even tho it's not to our fault. Suggested we can go to apple, but don't think they'll do anything Frustrating to pay that when it's an issue with the phone, when we already pay a stupid amount per month ...

I started having the exact same problems with my iPhone 6. My DH took it to one of the phone kiosks in the mall (I guess a lot of the phone kiosks do replacement batteries) and it cost $50. My phone's been perfect since.

Check settings of all of the apps. After updates it seems some are turned on again.
Make sure he has quit apps not just gone onto another app (press home button twice, then swipe up on each one that is open). My gf was having trouble. She seriously had 30 apps that had been open forever! She didn't realize that going on to another app didn't quit the first one.
Check the notification window. Swipe down and tap clear for each that appear.
Have him do a hard reset. He won't lose anything. Do this after the above has been done. Hold down the power button and home button until the apple icon appears. Once it appears let go and wait.

OH yes, the charger could be an issue. Make sure you get one with the correct voltage for the phone!

Check settings of all of the apps. After updates it seems some are turned on again. This was part of my problem. The last update 'turned on' cellular data on a bunch of my apps. They were constantly running in the background. Not only was it sucking up my battery it was using up my data plan so much so that we almost went over our data. I've tried several different chargers, all iPhone originals and I'm still having issues. Mine will use 10% of my battery when I'm not even using it in about 15 minutes or so within a couple of hours I'm down to 70% without using the phone. I finally decided just to go ahead and up grade to the iPhone 7 Plus. It will be here mid December.

I had that problem when I first got the phone and ended up getting a new one at the Apple Store because they couldn't fix it with any of their "fixes".

I think Apple has a problem on their hands that they aren't willing to acknowledge. I had this same problem after the iOS 10 update. Did all the things you're advised to (checked settings, powered down, restore, etc), but nothing helped and the problem kept getting progressively worse. It got to the point where if I got a phone call or checked voicemail, then shortly afterward the phone would show a drastically low battery and shut down (even if it had been fully charged prior to the call).
I took it to the Apple store where they ran diagnostics and said the battery was failing and it would cost $80 to replace it. I argued that I wasn't having problems prior to the iOS update, even spoke with a manager, but got nowhere. They said it was within the allowance for expected battery life. The phone is a year and a half old!!! I expect more than a year and a half's usage out of something I paid $800 for!!! Since the $80 charge was cheaper than the insurance deductible on the phone, I paid to have the battery replaced.
But now I feel as though I cannot trust Apple any more. I was willing to pay a premium price for the phone based on the stellar customer service I have received from Apple in the past, but now I know that I am no longer valued as a customer.
I hope that you all have a better experience with Apple getting this resolved than I did.

I'm having the same problem. My phone drop from 50% to 28% in a minute then shut off. I'll plug it in and a couple of minutes later it's back to 55%.

yep, with the last update. I took it to a repair place and had them install a new battery. $50 bucks. The next week the phone got stuck in reboot mode. after 2 hours in the apple store they said it's the battery and b/c I had a third party replace it they weren't liable. Went back to third party and they fixed it for free (under warranty).
All this to say, I'd try replacing the battery. Find an authorized apple repair place and you should pay around 50 bucks. Apple will do it for 80.

I had the same issue within a month of buying my phone. I could literally watch the battery drop in minutes. Plug it in and it suddenly is back to the battery level prior to the rapid drop. Finally brought to Verizon, and it did it while I was there. Verizon said this is a known and common issue. It was within warranty and I was sent a replacement. You know it's not good when Verizon easily honored the warranty with a replacement!!!

We are a few months out of warranty and not eligible to upgrade until like July...irks me that it's a known issue yet I have to pay a replacement fee

We had this problem too. Apple insisted it wasn't the battery and since the phone was out of warranty we got stuck buying another 6. Now I'm worried it will happen again!

Interesting thread. My dd is having similar issues with her 6s. She said it shutoff at 26% yesterday. She always updates the latest release. I have a 6+'but I didn't update however my charge didn't last the usual 2 days recently so I planned to monitor that.

DS's 6 is having the same issue. I had his screen replaced recently and the guy told me the battery was "puffy". Said it needs to be replaced at some point but would be ok for the time being.

I haven't had the problem, but I have not updated to 10. I am always a very late adopter for any iOS update, because there are always SO many problems and Apple never acknowledges them.
Oddly, my husband is having this same issue, but with his Android phone.

I haven't done the latest update and my battery has been losing a charge very quickly lately. It's dropped 13% in the last 30 minutes and I am at home on wifi just reading TwoPeas.

I wish Apple would make chargers that were longer and had more durable wires. We have had issues with charges holding for a long time with the offbrand/nonApple chargers, but it seems to have better luck with the Apple ones. But I end up replacing them more often and I hate how thin the wires are and they are always getting pulled/bent because they're too short!
Hoping we don't have an issue with DD 6 that she has since she always seems to have issues right before a holiday so I'll be crossing my finger because I like you won't be paying 150 for fixing it. Will check out that $50 battery option at our mall kiosk if we have an issue.

I'm not over impressed with the OEM Apple chargers either.
I have a new iPod on order for my 9yr old grandson for Christmas. He likes a longer charging cord, so I bought a set from Costco the other day.
The set includes 2 - 6' Apple MFi certified high performance mesh Lightning Cables, 2 USB Wall Chargers and High Speed Car Charger. Two devices can be charged at once. They travel for hockey and between mom, dad and the kid, they have 6 Apple devices. I'm hoping this package works well for them.

Well, over the last two days mine has started doing this too. I am ANNOYED. I'm still running 9.3.5 on it, I may as well update because it can't get any worse. At 4:30 pm I should still have 50% charge left, instead it's on the charger at 7%. Grrrrrr.

There is a known problem with the 6 phones and faulty battery life display. You think you have 30% but you really only have 2%.
That's what I've read all over the web trying to figure this out.
