DH is looking to buy me an air fryer. I was going to steer him to the QVC larger digital one that was recently a TSV, but the reviews are up & down. Many complained about having issues getting the basket in/out, others had issues with it shutting off and not coming back on, while others had no problems. So I am looking for an alternative.
Also, I cook for two, but like to have some leftovers, so do I need the 3.5 quart or the 5.3 size?
Thanks for any suggestions (or ones to steer clear of)!

I'm thinking of asking for one of these for Christmas too!
Wondered if they really work!

I have the larger Todd Engish one from Evine. It is a machine I really love. I just got a new cook book to go with it from QVC from Meredith.

I'd probably stay away from the cook's essentials (qvc brand) and the evine brand (I have it).
mine is like 3.5 qts. I cook just for me and it's plenty big. fine for 2 or 3 also. I think the basket of the larger ones would be too heavy for me. if you often have the kids come home or company there, you might think about a larger one. I like Paula Deens (from watching demos on tv)- you get extra things with hers and I think you can even buy an extra basket for it. She has a new one out with a sq basket (can easily fit 4 grilled cheese sandwiches in it). Her dials are large - good visuals! look for hers on Evine. I think you can buy an extra basket for it. and there's a slotted insert for toast.
I think what is important to pay attention to are the dials. is the printing / icons big enough to see (without your glasses on). the one I got is teeny tiny. but I can muddle thru and plan to get a marker to make my own lines for the times and mark a few more used temps. if I can see a few, I can figure out what's between them.
check the watts vs the size.
also, the larger size would be easier for putting a dish in it to cook. some come with a cake pan type dish to cook in (like a meatloaf). I have to find a dish that is 6" or less in diameter for mine. something to think about.
but, all in all, I love it. you'll get used to how to pull the basket out and push back in. put your hand on the top of it when you pull/push the basket. it helps to weight / hold the body of it so the basket moves in/out easier.
no more turning on big oven for 8-10 fries, 2 slices of garlic toast or 2 apple turnovers. (I seldom used my oven anyway). I often turn the AF on for a few min. before putting the food in (preheat) - maybe 3-5 min. a lot less time than w/the big oven.
I did cook a small steak in it - it was awesome.
If I was buying one today, I'd probably get the Paula Deen AF.
do check out the different ones on qvc, evine, HSN etc. (HSN seems to only have the Phillips in right now - how weird!)
HSN usually has Ming Tsai on too but I don't see his available on there now. I'm sure he has a website where his AF can be seen and is described. maybe on youtube? I think he might be on again in Nov.
watch over TG weekend when they have major specials on. check their show guides for chefs and show times.
I plan to get Meredith's book from Amazon on my next order. it'll be available there around Dec 1st

It works really well. I mainly do veggies as a side dish and every one loves them Sliced zucchini, potatoes, sweet potatoes, parsnips or carrots etc in a bag with a tsp of oil and some spices, Shake them up to coat and put in the airfryer. They come out crispy and delicious. It is hard to believe they are healthy

I have the 5.8 Todd English one from Evine.com and I love it. However, if I get another one, it will probably be the Paula Deen one which is also from Evine. It has the ceramic basket and that should be super easy to clean. I also have the Phillips one and it is on the shelf in the pantry most of the time because the basket is a pain to clean. I just ordered the smaller Todd English one for my aunt for Christmas. There is a discount code for 20% off right now, 20GIFT.
