Funny you should ask. I've had insomnia since I had surgery last week (so unusual for me). It's now 3:30 am and I can't sleep yet again so I've been listening to podcasts and was about to Google some recommendations. Here are some that I like depending on my mood: Lore The Sporkful Invisibilia Strangers Fresh Air This American Life The Moth Code Switch Stuff You Missed in History Class Wait Wait, Don't Tell Me Welcome to Nightvale The Nerdist Freakonomics Radio Sawbones Reply All Hmmm, some others I'm forgetting. I'll admit that I find the voices of some of the hosts annoying at times even if I'm interested in the subject matter, so I'm not always caught up. I hope you find something new to enjoy

I listen to podcasts a lot. I'm a true crime junkie so those are all I listen to. To name a few:
True crime Garage Thinking Sideways The Vanished Somebody knows something (a serial) Up and Vanished (Tara Grinstead case) The trail went cold Sword and scale Generation why
And my favorite, although it's more comedic and not for everyone is History Dweebs.

Christian podcasts that usually have a new podcast 1-2x/week: Happy Hour with Jamie Ivey -she is able to strike the right balance between getting her guests to talk about heavy/serious and fluffy/fun subjects. The Glorious in the Mundane - usually a bit more introspective The Road Back To You-Ian Cron & Suzanne - exploring the eannegram (hope I spelled that correctly) which is more like a measure of your personality and how it affects you Relevant podcast- from Relevant magazine The Austin Stone sermon audio- love their messages.
Christian podcasts that are less frequently updated: That Sounds Fun with Annie Downs - The Big Boo Cast- Melanie Shankle and Sophie Hudson-they are the authors of the Big Mama and the Boo Mama blogs and several books apiece. This one is like listening into 2 girlfriends phone conversation
Other podcasts: Wait wait...don't tell me-news and humor with a liberal slant What Should I Read Next?- awesome book reviews TED Radio Hour

Thanks for all of the suggestions! O/P I hope you can finally get some sleep. Could it be pain meds?
ETA: Woops it was chendra that is having insomnia, not the o/p. I hope you're finding some relief!

I love Real Crime Profile! They have 3 speakers, 2 are former FBI and Scotland Yard profilers and the other one casts actors on Criminal Minds. They have covered the Making a Murderer Case, OJ Simpson case and know they are doing the Amanda Knox case. They really look to get to know the victim and how often the victim gets overlooked in his/her murder.
I also like Criminal. They are short stories about all different types of crimes.

Shudder.

What is a podcast? On the cleaning thread someone mentioned one and I googled it but have no idea how to work a podcast! I just discovered youtube last winter. I am pretty clueless! Hi maryland. A podcast is like a radio program that you can download and listen to on your computer or smartphone or other device at your convenience. You can also subscribe to them. (Podcast is a combination of the words "broadcast" and "ipod", even though you don't need an ipod to listen.) You can use an app like itunes or Stitcher or Podbay or you can usually just go to a website and listen on your computer. Podcasts are on a myriad of subjects, fiction and non-fiction, serious or lighthearted. I'm sure there are one or more that would interest you. I love to listen to them when I can't sleep or when I'm driving or when I'm the only one in the office. Here's one to try: The MothI enjoy it because it's real stories told by real people. I never know whether I will be laughing or crying at the end. We will get you hooked on podcasts!
