it was a Silhouette Cameo!
I got it two years ago around Christmas on an incredible deal. I had wanted one for years, but couldn't bring myself to buy one. Then my mom passed away and I was determined to do something I just really wanted to do and bought it. But I had just switched jobs and my work was overwhelming and I never opened it up. And then my basement got out of hand (with a stinking mess). And my life got out of hand.
And today I took off work determined to start on making some Christmas presents, which is my very favorite of all things in the world to do and I found my Cricut buried under boxes and boxes of things. And it had turned into a Cameo.
So excited that 1) There is a dedicated Cameo thread and 2) I have a whole set of instructions to read!!! Now I just wish I had a full week to play with it!

Have fun! I got the Cricut Explore last year and watched many videos to learn how to do basics. I need to pull it out again. I see more videos in my future

I have both brands and think the Cameo is easier to learn. I also had the Gypsy (Cricut) and that made the transferring of skills easier for both machines.

It is nothing like Design Space . Wish I could connect my Gypsy to the Explore... ETA: I was between the Cameo and the Explore last year. The reason I stayed with Cricut is because I have about 100 cartridges

I hope there might be a REAL GOOD DEAL on a Cameo around this time of year. I have not seen any DEALS yet.

Michaels let me use my 40% off coupon since the machine was so new and they hadn't put restrictions on it yet. I just got the Cricut Air 2 this month. Need to put all of these cartridges to good use.

The Cameo3 is out now, but it seems to be a bit buggy yet. Really Red - there are some great beginners Silhouette groups on Facebook. You can get almost instant help if you post there. Search for Beginners Silhouette Cameo and Silhouette Basics. Two great groups.

I stopped updating my Gypsy years ago because of all the stories of them dying while updating. The only way to use the cartridges is to connect the Gypsy to Craft Room and then the cartridges will transfer to Design Space. Well, my Gypsy will not connect to CR and I cannot update it either (keep getting an error). I emailed customer service. I have to take a picture of all my cartridges so they can add them to my account. I am off this week, so my plan is to do that tomorrow. Sounds like quite a job.

Thankfully all of my cartridges are already linked to the site. I had 135 and five more that were on my Gypsy electronically. Kind of a hassle. I guess when they first sold the Gypsy, they didn't have the insight to where the whole electronic craze was headed.

Yay! What an excellent surprise. I think you will find it easy to get the hang of...there is SO much that you can do with it, but the basics are really easy

If you want to buy from Amazon, set up an account on CamelCamelCamel which is a price tracker site. That's how I picked mine up for a good price.

Well, did they send you the wrong machine or did you forget you ordered a Cameo instead of an Expression? I was gifted a barely used Expression with one cartridge several months ago.

So funny! I am a big Cameo fan. I find it to be more versatile. I would not bother to read the directions. Just find a few starter projects on Youtube and start experimenting! That is how I learned.

That is kind of funny. You must spill if there was a Cameo in a Cricut box! I'm really hoping that Design Space 3.0 will make me love my Explore. After fighting with DS again tonight, I feel like throwing out my Explore. Though I know it's not the Explore but the software that can be horrible. I have another corrupted file. Sigh. Wish my Explore would turn into a Cameo.
