It "may" not be the best but my dog always gets a Thanksgiving plate. She gets a few green beans or peas, a couple spoonfuls of sweet potato, one bit of stuffing, the same small bit of pumpkin pie, and some turkey (no skin). She loves it of course.

I give a bite or two of cooked meat to our dogs after we are finished often (if the meat has nothing added to it in a dry rub or marinade that I don't want the dogs to have). But for Holidays they might get a bit of canned food mixed in with their dry for a few days. Remember this list of things not to let your dog eat.

That is fine ..veggies are fine and a nibble of turkey...I am more concerned of the bones from turkey that can splinter and cause all kinds of problems to the inside of a pup... You both are doing fine for your pups ...Happy Thanksgiving...

I remember one of the first thanksgivings I spent with DH's family. SIL had a wire haired terrier that they nicknamed "Devil Dog" because she was sneaky and mischievous. we were cleaning up and i accidentally dropped a turkey bone on the ground. out of nowhere, Devil Dog snatches it up and makes off with it. we run after her and wrestle the bone out of her mouth.

I understand that onions are bad for them but mine really like Sweet Potatoe and that's really good for them. THey actually like the sweet potatoe over pumpkin. In fact I might pick up a few just for them. Oh and the pumpkin has to be the puree stuff not the real stuff.

I have the hardest time getting my family to understand that turkey bones can hurt a dog.
Thanks for the reminder, I'll send a quick text with the link posted above.

DD (darn dog!) has so many food allergies that he just gets his regular food. I would love to give him some Thanksgiving treats but I don't want to spend the next month trying to clear up his skin!

Merrick makes a "Thanksgiving Dinner" canned dog food that my dog loves! It includes turkey and veggies!

At risk of sounding insane, I boil the bones and make "turkey slop" out of the meat and cartilage. I feed it to the dog until he lies down in a contented haze. This year, our new family member is a poultry-loving cat. I am curious to see what effect "turkey slop" has on him.

I've never considered my dog choking on the bone. I think omg, a blockage or intestinal laceration, and at the very least a trip to the emergency vet. All of which equals $$$$$

gets expensive doesn't it if we have to take them in...better to just avoid foods that may harm them...hugs

I'm sitting at the vet's office right now because Daisy got her teeth cleaned. They told me they're gearing up for "pancreatitis Friday". They joke they're busier than Target.

No fear of that here, my dh is a freak about dogs not eating people food and unless someone drops something, our shih tzu eats dog food or the dog treats from the local bakery. Of course dd and I sneak a nibble to her on occasion but pretty much just fruit bits and occasionally a tiny bit of cheese.
DD dropped a peanut butter filled pretzel bite the other day and Meeka was the happiest dog around.
