Does anyone pay for the My Fitness Pal app? Just wondering if it is really that much better then the free app. I used MFP years and years ago and didn't care for it but it seems much better now. I am trying to do away with Weight Watchers and get rid of that monthly fee. MFP (even paid for) is much cheaper than WW. Thoughts or do you have an app you love more than MFP? Thanks everyone!

Not an expert but I've been using the free version since July in conjunction with my Fitbit and it does everything I'd want. I even used it as a step tracker before I got the Fitbit. What does the paid version even get you?

I'm curious too! I've been using the free version and I really like it. I just wish it would work with garmin activity trackers. I have an older one that is almost dead and I want to replace it but the fitbit that is in my price range doesn't do all the things that my garmin does. But it connects with MFP.

Here is what the paid version gets you (found on the web). The ads drive me crazy but that's not worth paying for the premium. I am not sure the premium is worth it. I hope someone that has it will chime in.

I use MFP and paid for the premium version. It doesn't have anything that you can't live without, for sure. However, there are a few features I really like (and I've had premium for almost a year, so if they've updated it and some of this is available free, whoops):
- I watch my macros pretty closely and really like being able to set up my goals by gram rather than by %.
- No ads is awesome.
- I think this is a premium only thing, but I can toggle back and forth between seeing the ratio of macros by % vs by gram. I like seeing that, again, because I have found watching macros to be helpful for me (making sure I get a minimum of a certain amount of protein & fat and a maximum of carbs -- so I really look at those numbers, sometimes more than total calories).
- The food analysis is interesting but not something I use a lot - it shows you what foods you're eating the most, where the most of each macro is coming from (including sugar, that is interesting to see it totaled up over 30 days).
- I don't link my step tracker to it or log exercise, but if I did, then premium would be VERY important to me. I do not like it adding back in the exercise calories, and you can turn that off with premium.
It's $50 for a year, right? That seems steep for an app, but my thought was if I'm really using it daily, that is a small amount. I'd give someone 15 cents to not see adds on the app today -- and that's what it costs. The annual fee stings when you pay it, but then the rest of the year, I'm happy I don't have ads and have those extra features, so I'll probably continue on with it. I had been using it for a few months consistently before I sprung for premium -- wouldn't buy it if you're not certain that you can stick to tracking. Maybe it's a reward you buy yourself if you track every day for a month? I like that it tracks a streak and reminds you towards the end of the day if you haven't logged in, to keep your streak up.

Oh, I remember the feature that finally got me to pay for Premium -- you can choose which 3 nutrients show up at the top of the app to track, versus having to go into the nutrition screen. I want to see protein/fat/carbs, so that was huge for me. I can't even remember what it looked like before Premium, but it made a big difference for me not to have to scroll down, go into the nutrition screen, then go back out in the app to see where I was at on my macros.

I use the free version and it works well for me. However, if my pre-diabetes numbers dis not go down I would have switched to paid. If tracking macros is important or you need more specificity for some reason pay.
My advise is to start free, you can always upgrade later.
I use map my run for exercise tracking and have for a lot longer than I have used MFP. I also got record to communicate between the two. I might be able to use record as a fitness tracker but I am used to MMR.
