Had DS at 40 in 1999, and probably started peri menopause right after that. Menopause happened in 2006. One night sweat, two hot flashes and I was done. You are so lucky. I was 51 when I had my last period. When I was 52, I went for my physical and asked if I could have a blood test to make sure I was. I think I was 50 when I got my first hot flash, so I guess I was only perimenopausal for a year. But menopause it not what I thought. It's miserable. I get hot and then I'm cold. Even at night. Covers on, covers off, covers on, covers off. I can't remember the last good night sleep I've had. Which leads me to the weight gain. I gained 30 pounds in the last 2 years, maybe more!

I'll be 50 in January and according to my period tracker app, I'm 95 days late as of today! Woohoo!! I'm hoping this is on the track to the well drying up for good-- lol. I have warm flashes, not really hot ones and I've noticed the mood swings lately. Oh my gosh, they have an app for that??!! HEHEHEHHEHEHEHEHE

Not idea how much longer, I just want this period crap to stop. Now! When we were TTC I found out I had PCOS so would skip months. This of course made it so much harder to get pregnant. Now, when I would be happy to be completely done, I never skip. NEVER.
37 years of periods. So done.

I didn't finish until 55-56, I was beginning to think that I would be the only 72 year old in the gyn's office for my annual pap. Still having hot flashes occasionally.

I started peri-menopause in my middle 40's. By the time I was 48, my periods were starting to be farther and farther apart. I was 49 and went almost 9 months with out a period. I had two more and then nothing. It has been 2 years since I had a period. But I have heat waves instead. Calling them hot flashes just doesn't do them justice!! We live in the northeast part of Tennessee and it is cold here now. But we don't have any heat on in the house because of my heat waves. LOL!! DH just layers on sweats and quilts if he gets cold. I burn up most of the time and sweat like I am in a sauna. Add to that the mood swings and it's not a good idea to cross me a lot. Poor DH!
My Mom went into full blown menopause when my Dad passed away. She was about 47, I think. She never had a mood swing or hot flashes. She always froze to death, even in the summer she would get so cold easy.

Last period at age 40.
Might have been irregular for 3-4 years prior.

I am 55 and still getting a VERY heavy period every 3 months or so. My question is, if you get a little bit of spotting during the 12 months you are going with no period, does that count and you have to start counting your 12 months over again?

I'm 46, and just seeing the first signs of perimenopause. I've had some tests ran, and yep, slightly diminished ovarian function. The doctor says that the symptoms may come and go for a couple of years before the real "fun" begins.

Don't really know accurately when my period stopped because I was on continuous birth control pills (where you don't get a period) to help with my migraines. At the age of 52 my doctor suggested stopping the pills to see where I was, and my period never came back. Didn't come back for a full year, and never again. I'm 56 now, will turn 57 in April. Still get horrible hot flashes, but these are controlled by taking a supplement called Primrose Oil that my Integrative Medicine doctor prescribes. I've never taken HRT therapy. The primrose oil works so well I can barely feel the hot flash and I only get about 1-2 a day/night vs. one every 30 minutes like I used to get.
Best news of all-my migraines have almost completely stopped. They are down to one every 2-3 months. My Integrative doctor tested my hormone levels in my blood and I no longer have any estrogen. I'm worried if I do go on HRT-even the bio identical type (my healthier for your body) that the migraines will return, so that's another reason I don't do it.
