I'd do a poll, but it would quickly get ridiculously long if I had to list ages... I'm 48 with no signs that I see and just wish Aunt Flo would ride quietly off into the sunset My question - what age were you when you saw signs and what age were you when you were done.

I'm no help, because I'm 52 and still Aunt Flo visits regularly. My mom also wasn't much help when I asked her, because she couldn't remember exactly how old she was when she hit menopause ("50-ish?"). But your mom's experience is supposed to be the biggest predictor of when it will start.
I've gained some weight recently and I have night sweats, so those might be the warning signs.

I don't remember when I first had signs of perimenopause, but it was years and years ago. I'm 54 and it's been about a year with no periods, but I have stopped and started several times before. I'm giving it more time before I say I'm completely done.

Perimenopause lasted ten years for me. I had five years where I skipped multiple months, but it always came back. I was 54 when I hit menopause. My mom and her mom had menopause at 42. I took after my dad's side of the family.
PSA-I had severe insomnia which caused anxiety and exhaustion while in perimenopause. Please see your doctor if this happens. Sleep is very important to overall health.

I'm mid-40's. I've had some night sweats and maybe a couple of hot flashes (or that could be because I'm still trying to wear winter clothes when it's in the 80's). But my PMS is EPIC and my period comes about every 24 days (very consistent). I'm getting zits like I did when I was a teenager and wake up with migraines the week surrounding my period. Yeah--this is FUN!

I am 50 and have just recently started showing signs that I am approaching menopause. So far, just incredibly heavy and erratic periods. I don't know when my mom started.

I'm 54 and going strong. I've been in perimenopause for I'm guessing at least 8-10 years. No idea when my mom went through it. She's one of those hush hush types.

I started having erratic periods when I was 53. Last period when I was 56. I am 59 and still have the occasional hot flash.

I am 50 and literally the month of my birthday was the FIRST sign to any irregularity of Aunt Flo. I skipped a couple months but since then it is back as regular as ever. Sigh..... This is going to be a long process

46 here - she's still arriving, more frequently than ever (averaging about every 23 days and she sticks around for a FULL week). I've had night sweats for years and my cycle started changing in my mid-late 30s (lengthening/skipping months, then shortening in my 40s). My last pregnancy was at 38 (almost 39) and ended in m/c - we've not been preventing but I think that boat has sailed.
My mum doesn't remember when she went through the change - I suspect it was around the time Dad died (she was almost 53) since she had had bad mood swings for a couple of years prior to that and Dad had said something about being patient with her, she was going through 'some changes'.
I do know that for as many generations as I've managed to track back on my side (and also on DH's side which'll impact my daughters) - no one has had a baby after 36-37...not those women who were super-fertile and had 7, 8, 9+ kids, not those women who (like me) weren't so fertile and only had a couple of widely spaced kids. So I suspect strongly that menopause tends towards the earlier not later side for my family.

Medically induced at 43 so no run up, just 💥 menopause. The first year was rough with every possible symptom. I started HRT and it fixed everything. I went off HRT after 5 years and have had no symptoms since.

Started the perimenopause thing at 44 with insanely heavy,crime-scene-like periods. I haven't had a period for a year or so, but now that DD1 has moved back home (and is in the middle of her period as we speak), I noticed this morning that I'm feeling a bit crampy. For a while, I'd sometimes have a period, sometimes not. My periods used to come back when DDs were home from college at Christmas and during the summer. DD1 moved home after grad school a few months ago, so I hope I won't be starting my period again!
The hot flashes and "hormonal insomnia" continue, though.

I'm kind of jealous of those that have gone so long without it. But that is because my periods were never had, but menopause has been a sweaty bitch.
I was predisposed to go early as my mom and two older sisters hit peri in their late thirties. I decided to have a baby in my late thirties (37). On my son's first birthday I found the lump that would turn out to be cancer. I was one of those whose cycle didn't come back while I breast fed for 21 months. Then chemo started and it never came and about a year after chemo they said my blood work indicated I was starting peri, 5 months later they said I was full blown menopause. (By that time I hadn't had a cycle in 3 plus years) Gyn led me to believe that because of how I launched into it, that it might be rough. Holy hot flashes! I don't think I'm super moody, but dryness coupled with hot flashes for the past 13 years has been no fun. I keep being told the hot flashes will stop. Please let them stop.

Can't remember specifically but I guess it started around my mid - late 40s. I'm 55 and not done. No periods for about 7 months but I know that doesn't mean it's finished yet. Still having hot flushes etc with the best of 'em

Perimenopause started mid 40s for me - mainly a change in cycles rather than any other symptoms. I'm 53 now and haven't had a period for at least 18 months so guess I'm done I had a few hot flushes/flashes but nothing too major. I think my Mum hit menopause at about 52 and it was 51 for me.

Have been in peri since mid 40's. Late 40's my period started being erratic. I'll miss a month then it comes back regular for 3 months or have one month just light spotting but still have the pain. I noticed in my mid 40's my periods became heavier, more painful and lasted a couple days longer. I am 50 and have been having terrible acne and oily t-zone (more than usual) Many symptoms others have listed. My mom went through it after having my at 37. So far the hot flashes haven't been bad. Hope that doesn't change.

Had DS at 40 in 1999, and probably started peri menopause right after that. Menopause happened in 2006. One night sweat, two hot flashes and I was done.

I'm 53 and I went two whole months w/o a period. Yesterday I started one, but it's really different than any other period I've ever had, very light. I have been in peri-menopause for a few years. My mom was 53.

I'm 44 and the only thing I've noticed is I get really hot while driving to work...I'm usually drinking coffee, so I think it's the caffeine. I also run hot when exercising now. I used to be the one that would show up for our early morning runs bundled up like it was snowing (it would be in the 50's) and I'd never get warm enough to shed layers. While I still show up bundled up, I'm usually down to a tank top, and still too hot, after about 5 minutes. All my girlfriends are older than me, so they think it's a hoot to watch me rip off all my clothes.

I had a hysterectomy when I was 42. I left the ovaries, so I still get some symptoms. I am now 51 and have shown signs of menopause, but nothing that was at all really obvious (like no period). I haven't ever had hot flashes. Thank goodness. My doctor thinks I am done. My thinning hair does too. Who knows. I also got my period when I was still in elementary school, so I started early if that has anything to do with it.

I'll be 50 in January and according to my period tracker app, I'm 95 days late as of today! Woohoo!! I'm hoping this is on the track to the well drying up for good-- lol. I have warm flashes, not really hot ones and I've noticed the mood swings lately.

Yeah--this is FUN! I'm 41 and have similar symptoms. The REALLY fun part is the light period one week followed by a regular period the following week, with night sweats leading up to the second one. So much fun. Wouldn't it be great if we all knew what age this would end so we could be counting down the days? I hate not knowing if I have a few years or 15.

I'm 49 in Jan and have been in peri for about 2 years. I get night sweats occasionally and the odd hot flashes.
My period is regular as in monthly but it's not always spaced out at 28 days. It also only lasts about a day and a half now. It,s very painful the first 12 hours or so and I get awful bowel cramps.
My mom thinks she was 53 but isn't sure. She had no symptoms or side effects.
I hope it stops soon. I had cysts since I was 16 and had 3 cystectomies (2 the size of a small football) and was really irregular in my 20's. until I had DS, at 33 and that regulated me. I had my last cyst removed when DS was 17 months and I was 35.

Medically induced menopause when I was 30 years old. I STILL get hot flashes a few times a week, but they are better than they were 5 or so years ago. Looking forward to the day when they are completely gone.

I'm 49 and have all my fingers and toes crossed that I'm almost done. I had a light period in April, and before that January but nothing since. 4.5 months to go and counting! I'd been regular as a clock up until 12-18 months ago or so. My hair has been thinning since my mid 30's and I've always had insomnia so that wouldn't indicate anything to me. I had my only kid at 43 and nursed for almost a year so I think some of the symptoms were maybe masked by that. While I tend to run a lot warmer than I ever did when I was younger, I wouldn't call it hot flashes and no real night sweats either once I lost all the water weight after being pregnant. At least not compared to the instant dripping sweatiness that my friends have experienced. I think my mom went through it around 50, but I was 10 at the time and it wasn't anything she ever discussed with me, LOL.

Peri menopausal in my late 30's . Completely finished by 41 or so. Doctor thought I was crazy until he saw my blood results . The look on his face was priceless.
