Driver curses at "Arab Sand N***er" - No shame

I told a woman she was rude to an elderly cashier the other day. She screamed at the cashier because her card wouldn't go through. She told me Trump was going to get me.

I'm Black. I guess that's going to be the new tag line.

It isn't just one group/side either, maybe it was the super moon or something but lots of people have gone crazy.

Until last week I hadn't heard the phrase 'your kind' since the seventies when I kicked Someone for saying it to my friend. It was said to me 3 times last week. 2 were vapid stupid people I laughed off as loonies, the third was a blatant threat.

I feel like I woke up in an alternate universe.

I was born here. I'll be fine. My thoughts immediately went to all of the people who really are scared because they're undocumented or they have other immigration issues. It's a scary world for them.

I finished up my ESL volunteer application today for precisely that reason.

It's disgusting the things that people are saying and doing. It always has been but that it's increasing is really frightening.

Thank you for sticking up for the cashier! It's so sad that this is what our country is succumbing to. But we can overcome as long as there are people like yourself who are willing to speak up and stand up for those being abused. Thank you again! 

Omg...that is awful. The anger I felt watching that video. I can't imagine being on the receiving end of that. I'd see red...

Scrappyesq how do you not respond? The trashy in me would've come out and I would've called that woman every name in the book.

It says good things about you that you feel bad about that. I doubt she would do the same. I think it just makes you human.

I would, however, recommend you be careful in such responses, especially if you are likely to run into her again. Not because of your color or hers, but because she's clearly got issues and who knows how she or another might react. I'm not saying live in fear, but I think every woman would do well to be careful in engaging with strangers, especially potentially angry ones with clear issues. No, you don't have to take their shit, but perhaps be prepared for if it escalates.

BTW, that's advice I would've given before the election as well. BECAUSE PEOPLE WERE CRAZY WELL BEFORE THE ELECTION! Yes, some people are going to feel freer to say the offensive things they might otherwise keep behind closed lips but Trump getting elected didn't change their minds or convert them to whatever. The problem was already there.
