I've been really struggling both physically and mentally for the past year, although some of the symptoms go back for many years. I just received a call that my testosterone level is less than 3, the nurse said acceptable range is 8 - 48.
Aside from the "obvious" symptom, which is important but not all that high up on the list of symptoms to fix right now, does anyone have knowledge or experiences to share?
We have been trying for years to figure me out, especially in the past few months, and this is the first time we have found an actual scientific indication of something wrong, other than just going by symptoms.
I'm trying to remain cautious as this isn't the first thing that seemed to fit so well. But I am feeling somewhat hopeful, especially looking at the mental symptoms. It would explain so much, & honestly relieve a lot of guilt.

I have no experience with this in women. My DH has low testosterone. He uses a gel that is very expensive. I have great insurance and my copay is still $60 for a 20 day bottle. He was feeling very fatigued and his sex drive was waning when he finally got diagnosed.

I take testosterone, progesterone and cortisol, all of which are hormones (bioidentical) which balance the HPA. PM me if you want more information about my experience.

Nothing personally but have a male friend diagnosed with low testosterone and it was found to be due to a benign tumour on the pituartory (spelling ?)gland.
he had surgery and is now on replacement medication for life.

It would explain so much, & honestly relieve a lot of guilt. Yep, I've had that, but with other hormones as well (I was in my twenties when this really set in). I went 15 years trying to figure out what was wrong until I finally found a doctor that looked at it a different way, and did the right tests, and evaluated the results the right way. It was very difficult emotionally. Once diagnosed, it helped things personally with DH with the understanding of why I was tired, or emotional, or other things. I went with the bioidentical hormone route in the short term. If you are on birth control, that can also drop your testosterone level way down. That was a contributing factor. If that's the case, let me know and I can tell you something you can get over the counter for that Before I submit to my insurance for the compound cream, I pay 50 dollars for one month, but that includes other hormones as well. After insurance, its about 30 per month. For me, the risk of hormone therapy is worth it at my age.

My tumor was producing too much of all of those. Crazy how there is a delicate ballet of things going on in our bodies where too little is as bad as too much.

Mine was 0 and I was started on a testosterone cream(also progesterone and estrogen--at age 49)--apparently besides the obvious lol, it is very hard to increase/maintain muscle mass with low/no testosterone. That's the main reason I take it. HTH!

My doctor told me the normal range is 15-70 and that women feel good around 150. My number was 14. I have been getting bio-identical testosterone pellets inserted in my hip. The mental clarity has improved tremendously. I was always forgetting the words for things like "garbage can" I knew what it was, but couldn't say the word without really thinking about it...not just garbage can either. I have a great memory normally, but it was slipping. I also was snapping at my husband quite often. After 5 weeks I had my blood tested again and my number was now at 440. Everything has improved. The pellets are not covered by my insurance so I am putting out $300 every 4-5 months.
