I really didn't see that.
I expected Surgeon General or head of Health and Human Services.

That surprises me, too. I haven't kept up with today's news. Did Carson accept?

I thought I read that Ben pulled himself out of the cabinet positions citing that he did not have enough government/political experience!?

SaveI honestly believe that Trump is trying to "reward" Carson for his loyalty after he left the campaign trail.

I think Carson would have been a great Surgeon General. I would say that's the post I would see him as most qualified to hold. HUD is just . . .odd. Save

SaveHe pulled himself to become so much more than the limits expected of the son of an under-educated mother in a deprived inner city. He could be an inspired choice. I'm familiar with his inspiring story. That still doesn't make him knowledgeable about the governmental workings of housing and urban development. This reminds me of Trump's fallback response when asked about racial issues--he always went straight to the "inner cities" that were in his words, "total disasters." Given Trump and his family's track record wrt renting to minorities, this just seems to have a tinge of "give the black guy HUD." Why? because "inner city" Carson was a brilliant neurosurgeon and would have a lot of applicable knowledge to bring to the Surgeon General's position. What experience does he have with housing and urban development, other than growing up poor? SaveSave

I heard the news guy say that Carson himself said he didn't think he had the experience to run a federal agency - but Carson was running for president, like he thought he had the experience to do that! Yikes.

from Carson's fb page yesterday:
"President elect Trump is a good judge of people and their intentions. He will be able to properly assess the relationship with Mitt Romney. There is no reversal of my position in terms of working with the Trump administration. I have always made it clear that I preferred to work outside of the government as an advisor, but if called upon, I would serve inside of the government. I believe it is important to have voices that are outside of the administration combating media bias and The divisiveness that has infected our country. First of all it will be necessary to assure people that there is no desire to pull the rug out from underneath anyone who is already getting insurance. The desire is to create a system that is centered around patient and healthcare providers and not around insurance and government bureaucrats. We want something that works for everybody and does not pit one group against the other."
So, "I don't want the job, but if someone wants me to do a job, I'll do it, but I don't really want to."

I think Carson would have been a great Surgeon General. I would be very happy with Surgeon General. HUD is weird. If he doesn't want a cabinet position, I respect his decision, but I'd rather see him in any White House position over some of the other appointments and rumored appointments. He is someone I respect. Also, good to see you back! I've missed you.

He'll be great in any capacity. I do hope he accepts, unless he has his eye on another position.

Preface- take this as a light hearted joke.... not a "liberal" stirring up trouble or attacking Mr. Trump.... But given the repeated jumps in logic from "The African- American" ---> "inner cities". I can't help but find hilarious irony in this. When the joke plays out in my mind, he has no idea what HUD does but assumes that his African American friend would. And I have no idea if Ben Carson would be good at the job or not. It was just a punch line I couldn't resist and Lord knows we could all use a good laugh before we head to Thanksgiving dinner and just wait for the first person to bring up politics regardless of who we supported or how we voted.

I wish his picks would make more sense. I think Dr. Carson would have been a good choice for surgeon general. I am also confused about Mitt Romney for State. With his business background, why is he not being considered for commerce instead? I would like to see him in the cabinet, but just not sure state is a great fit.

Add me to the list who thought Carson might get the nod for Surgeon General. I like leftturnonly thinking, though.
