I would chalk it up to awkward texting and not being able to read tone and try to not be offended. Go see the friends and have a good time. This. Just go and have fun. If they didn't want you there, he wouldn't have sent any text and would have just left it at the awkward wifely brush-off.

I wouldn't read too much not it, honestly. Your DH wanted to get together and they told him about it - I am sure y'all will have a nice time if you meet up with them
Sometimes people's messages can be worded funny or they didn't mean it the way it comes across. He could just mean....we were getting together, but since wife told me you called, we both were talking and said hey, let's invite free bird and her DH too.
Just go and enjoy the evening

It could be something as innocuous as Friend 1 saying to Friend 2, "hey, Freebird and husband will be in town, "why don't we get together while they are here" and Friend 2 says "sounds good to me". I wouldn't think twice about the wording. Go', have fun.

Here's my take on it. Joe's wife probably knew but ya just can't invite someone to someone elses house. And the talking it over was probably Joe saying, "Hey friend and freebird are going to be in town, why don't you invite them over, too.
Have fun!

The 'we talked it over' bit tells me that you will have a prior engagement after all. that's how i feel about it the wording is weird... but go - if it's weird you'll know immediately i'll text you with an emergency! gina

I would read it as "the other two friends made us invite you" especially if the previous message seemed like they were brushing you off. I think the other two friends started asking if you were coming and that led to the invitation. putting "we talked about it" is very odd wording and I think there was a back message there. but, go, have fun. obviously they want you now that the gang's all there so have a good time and enjoy.
