Many people are driving and flying this week to reach loved ones. I am sending wishes that all arrive safely. For the day before Thanksgiving in the US, I am going to include page in my journal expressing my gratitude for TRAVEL. Growing up, we had very bad roads and not the best vehicles. Travel was slow and difficult and no one went very far very often. My father left home at the age of 16. His mother and little brother followed him to Canada a few years later, but he didn't see his other brother again for 50 years. Now, his grandchildren think nothing of flying to Mexico for a week just before Christmas! Travel (and communication technology) have conquered distance. I am thankful for the opportunity to drive to see 3 of my kids' families, and being able to fly to see the others once or twice a year. Those distances would have been impossible to conquer when I was a child. And I am grateful for the chance to travel for vacations myself. I have been to the Baltic, the Mediterranean, and the Carribean. I have been to Alaska, California, and Florida; New Zealand, Australia, Egypt, and China. Everywhere I have traveled I have learned something about history and culture, and learned that people are definitely more alike than they are different. Here is my page featuring a photo taken and printed by the cruise company last month: travel by Gramma Dee, on Flickr Happy travels, everyone!
