Do you mean the sweet ones? If so, then no. But, I'm a philistine and don't like any sweetness near my sweet potatoes/yams. lol

My recipe: Ingredients: 1 can - yams Directions: Pick up can of yams. Make a disgusted face. Throw can in trash. Yeah, I can't do canned yams. Maybe if they were hidden in another recipe as a puree? I got nothing that sounds good.

Saute onions and some peeled sliced apples. Drain can of yams and put in with onions and apple mix. Put in an 8x8 pyrex and sprinkle/mix in sugar and walnuts or pecans (whatever I have handy). Put some pats of butter on top and bake. I can't give you measurements because I was never given any. This is how my Mother-in-law makes them and now I make them for the holidays. Just eyeball it is what she told me.

I turned a very easy banana bread recipe in a much yummier pumpkin bread recipe that should be good with yams instead--
1 cake mix (dry mix only) (I used yellow cake mix, but you can use carrot or spice cake mix too) cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger (enough to make it less cake mixy and give it more flavor) 1 cup pumpkin puree (mooshed up squash or yams would work) 2 eggs 1 cup chopped nuts, optional
Mix the eggs and puree well.
Add to cake mix and spices, mix just enough to blend, and add nuts.
Put into greased and floured loaf pan, bake at 350 for 35-45 minutes (might take longer, but check at 35-45 min). I've also used this to make muffins that bake for 15-18 minutes or so. I had some leftover cooked acorn squash that worked well and didn't taste squashy at all, more like pumpkin bread b/c of the spices. If I used canned yams, I'd drain the liquid before mashing them with a fork.
I finally got rid of my old can of yams after having it sit around the pantry forever, never being used since I didn't think to try them in this recipe sooner!

I do them very Midwestern, which means I whip them with some brown sugar and a little of the juice they came in, then top with mini marshmallows and put in the oven until the marshmallows are lightly browned.
I don't care that it's so lowbrow...I love them! So creamy and sweet, I'm thinking about that giant can I have sitting on my counter right now <3
If I make actual sweet potatoes, those I like to bake and serve with just cinnamon.

Oh and I often use canned yams in my spice cake, whipped of course. It ends up similar to pumpkin bars.

This is the recipe I use, but I double the brown sugar and butter. Make it in an electric skillet. They won't burn and you can simmer until it thickens.

Most of what we call yams are actually sweet potatoes. Even in the grocery store! True yams are actually quite difficult to find in the US. They are paler than a sweet potato and a bit less nutritious.
I have made this with canned sweet potatoes before, but now I just roast fresh sweet potatoes. Either way, it turns out delicious and there is never a bit left. And I always end up sending out the recipe to several people. Just ignore the directions for roasting the sweet potatoes. If your canned sweet potatoes have a liquid, pour that off.
Sweet Potato Casserole
Mash: about 3 medium sized sweet potatoes (enough to make 3-4 cups) 1/2 cup sugar 1/4 cup butter 1/4 cup milk 2 eggs 1 teaspoon vanilla
Topping: 1/4 cup butter (cold) 1/2 cup flour 1 cup brown sugar 1 cup pecans, chopped
Bake sweet potatoes in a 350 degree oven for about an hour, until soft.
Let sweet potatoes cool enough to handle, then skin and mash them. Add 1/2 cup sugar, 1/4 cup butter, milk, eggs and vanilla. Mix together until smooth.
In a separate bowl, use your fingers, forks, or a pastry blender to mix the 1/4 cup cold butter, brown sugar, and flour. Add in the chopped pecans.
Butter your baking dish and add the sweet potato mixture. Sprinkle the nut topping over the top. Bake at 350 degrees for 1 to 1 1/2 hours until the mixture is bubbly and the topping has browned.
Notes: -Bake the sweet potatoes on a baking sheet lined with foil or you will have burned sweet potato juice on your oven floor! -I prepare the sweet potato mixture the day before, keeping the topping separate until the next day when I bake it. Otherwise the nuts will get soggy. -If you make this in a crock pot, the topping doesn’t really brown, but it does get crunchy. Cook for an hour on high, then about 3 hours on low, until done. -This recipe freezes well. Freeze the sweet potato mixture separate from the topping so that the nuts don’t get soggy.

After having those for every holiday growing up I can give you my Mom's recipe. Open a couple of cans and dump them with juice into a large pot. Add a bunch of butter and boil. Remove from heat and serve. Yup, just about as delicious as they sound. The one thing canned sweet potatoes don't need is more sugar, my Mom who put fat and sugar into far too many things even agreed with me on that.

My mom always made this recipe from her Betty Crocker cookbook and always used canned yams. I'm happy to report that all of us survived. Classic Candied Sweet Potatoes That is probably the recipe mom used. I've just made them like her w/o referencing a recipe. We survived just fine eating them. Now I am the only one who really eats them at holidays so it it just much simpler to make them using can, than to add yet another from scratch recipe to my to-do list. There are plenty of other frou frou dishes to make up for canned sweet potatoes/yams! This. I am surprised at how many people don't know this. Save

Topping: 1 cup pecan pieces 1 cup brown sugar 1/2 cup flour 1 stick melted butter
