I went to Target to pick up a few things today - finished shopping and decided to use the restroom before I checked out. Bad move! I left my cart in the dollar spot (near the restroom area) and was gone less than 5 minutes. When I returned to get my cart, it was nowhere to be found. No one working in the area would admit to having moved it, and I looked at customer service, and all around the area and it was GONE! So, I got an empty cart and started over. Fortunately, the store wasn't busy, so it wasn't too bad, but I didn't plan to spend 1.5 hours at Target today!

That's crazy! I guess it should have been closer to the restroom, but, still. Sorry you had to shop, again. Glad you didn't do a full shopping trip!

Sounds like someone (a shopper) thought it was an abandoned cart. Sorry!

I'd have packed it in the restroom area, like across from the family restroom. Still in sight of store employees. Or taken it to the customer service area and told someone I'd be right back.

So annoying! A year or two ago I had a similar experience at Meijer. I left the cart at the front of the store to use the restroom (located just inside the front door). Was gone 3 minutes, tops, but came out to a missing cart. Luckily, I spied it in the distance as an employee was starting to put my items away. Geez! I would think they'd wait a few minutes to ensure someone hadn't run out to their car for their checkbook, or to the back of the store for a forgotten item, or whatever.

Next time use the bathroom either before you start shopping or after you finish. It's a gamble leaving a cart out like that, the employee who picked it up could be long gone and the other nearby employees are at their registers doing their job not paying attention to who picked up your basket.

Can't stand that. Was at Marshalls one time and spent at least an hour shopping and had quite a few finds in my cart. Part my cart in the area for the fitting rooms and went to try something on and when I came out it was gone. Asked the attendant and said someone probably took it, happens all the time. Apparently that is what happened because someone too lazy to get a cart took mine and spewed the items in various locations. I was so aggravated I just left without buying a thing.

Then target needs to get rid of that very enticing Starbucks at the front of the store. I buy my drink, sip and shop and always feel the need to tinkle before I stand on line to check out. Of course, I have a teeny tiny bladder that was made very ineffective by a baby with a head the size of a Buick so may that's just my experience. lol

Weird - how much stuff was in there? The cart was about 1/2 full , of random stuff. Kleenex, plastic food containers, coffee, bandaids, and more. Enough stuff that it should have been obvious that it was someone's cart. I have done this many times in the 10+ years I've been shopping at this particular Target and this is the first time this has ever happened to me. They weren't very busy, and I guess someone was trying to look like they were working!

Omg, that almost happened to me today at the grocery store. I was in the bathroom for like 5 minutes (and I almost never use store bathrooms) and I came out to see an employee wheeling my cart. Fortunately I caught her before it was too late.

I had a cart go missing on me as well so now at that store, I always tell the person who is doing the self-check outs (which is located near the restrooms) that I will be right back for my cart as I need to use the restroom.
But Target? Telling someone that you have to use the restroom, please don't take my cart, isn't always a possibility. At least not at any I've ever been in. Some other stores do not have set up that allows someone to leave their cart near a service area for safekeeping for the 5 minute piddle. Some stores' bathrooms are located in a FAR corner, away from the service desk and cashiers. I hate having to use the bathroom at JoAnn's or HL. Their bathrooms are tucked away in a corner so any cart left near them could easily be taken away by a well-meaning employee.

They weren't very busy, and I guess someone was trying to look like they were working! Actually, if an employee took it to restock the items they were working and doing what they were supposed to be doing.

Actually, if an employee took it to restock the items they were working and doing what they were supposed to be doing. Maybe they didn't realize it hadn't been there that long. Still a pain though! I've always left mine by the Dollar Spot. Our Target's restrooms are past the cashiers so you can't take a full cart any closer really. Save

Annoying! I don't think the Dollar Spot is near a restroom in any of the three Targets by me. I've got three store, in three directions, each less than ten minutes from home. They each have a different layout.
When I've had to make a pit stop I've mentioned it to a cashier, and left the cart near the restroom alcove. Or I've left it there it if no ones around.
I'm sorry for your hassle, but this just as easily could have been a thread about "Target, no carts? They were used by ghost shoppers. Where did they go?"

My dollar spot is right by the restrooms/customer service desk ) That is odd that your cart was taken that quickly!!

I work there and my cart gets taken all the time. There are a lot of abandoned carts too, even ones with items in them. I found about 5 in my area today with items in them sitting for hours. I'm surprised it wasn't busy at your Target today. It was a madhouse at ours. I hope you got everything back that you put in your cart.

Phew - is that all? I've just been reading my crazy Republican friend's response to the AnywherebutTarget boycott page about how her daughters are really uncomfortable to use the bathrooms there due to their inclusion policy.
Actually though, I'm always nervous to leave my cart near the bathroom in case that happens.

Actually, if an employee took it to restock the items they were working and doing what they were supposed to be doing. I knew I didn't word it correctly, but what you said is what I meant. They were just working faster than I have ever experienced. Also, in our Target, the Dollar Spot is as close to the restrooms as you can get, unless you leave the cart out in the middle of the entrance. ETA - the customer service counter is on the other side of the Dollar spot, with a high shelf separating it, so you can't speak to anyone there.

This thread really makes me appreciate my iron bladder. I literally cannot remember the last time I used a restroom while shopping. On behalf of the Itty Bitty Bladder Club.....we hate you and your iron bladder. I had to ask an employee to keep an eye on my cart yesterday myself. I had a pretty full cart and almost done. I would have cried if I had to re-shop all of that mess. I have parked my cart outside of the bathroom up front at our local Target and it was gone when I came out. I was pretty upset at the time because I was only in there for 3-4 mins tops. I have my reusable shopping bags in my cart now. I'm not sure that is what keeps my cart safe but it hasn't happened since. sorry you lost your cart! What a hassle when you were ready to just be done. SaveSave
