I have a FoodSaver machine, and besides my IP, it is my most often used appliance in the kitchen. I use it all the time. Seriously, I shop at Costco, so I need something to give me a leg up on preserving the freshness so that I can consume everything I buy. I freeze a great deal of what I buy into more manageable portions, but there are items like lettuce, some fruits, and always leftovers planovers that are kept in the FoodSaver containers in the refrigerator. I also use the FoodSaver bags for almost everything I freeze. It keeps it from getting freezer burn and makes storing things so much easier. Especially since I can reuse the same bags for the same food some of the time.
I just went to the Foodsaver site to check out their new (to me anyway) zip lock bags. That would be so handy for some of my freezer items, like blueberries and things that I get into almost daily. My FoodSaver stays on the countertop, no matter how ugly it looks, because I use it just about every time I make something. Being able to combine that airtight seal with the convenience of a ziplock is an awesome addition to their line.
The FoodSaver site has some of the machines on sale, but more importantly, at least for me, they are offering a Buy One, Get One Free on boxes of refill bags! Also on their lunch saver containers. I was able to get the ziplock bags in both gallon and quart sizes, and went ahead and picked up some of the precut quart and gallon sized bags and a package of rolls. I usually use the rolls because they are cheaper, but with a BOGO deal, I splurged on the precut bags.
If you need any rolls or bags, or even the machine itself, today is the day go go order them. Shipping is always free, so that is another bonus. Besides, we need these to freeze all of the meal components we are making so quickly in our IP, right? My cooked quinoa, beans, ground turkey, and saute'd onions/mushrooms come out of the IP and go into FoodSaver bags to make whipping up salads and things so much easier and faster.

Thanks for posting this. This is a good deal on the bags. I usually get them at Bed Bath and Beyond with a coupon but this is a better deal and they have those little pint size ones that are hard to find. Haven't tried the zip locks.

Lexica These ziplock bags you mentioned, do you use the machine with them?? I love my foodsaver and have never seen these bags. Tell me more..LOL Yes, you use the machine with them. You just put your item into the ziplock like you would the normal kind, then use the machine on a little round spot on the bag to suck out the air. For my machine, which I have had for a few years, I needed to order a special green attachment to be able to use the machine with the ziplock bags and these lunch containers that I also ordered. I figure the bags will be really handy for things that I need to get in and out of frequently like chopped frozen fruit, shredded cheese, cooked ground turkey, and anything else that I prepare ahead of time in a big batch to be able to shop from during the week. I think they will be really great, but since I haven't tried them yet, I can't make any declarations of awesomeness. I don't know how long the bags are going to be on sale, so if you think you want to try them, you should probably order them today. Or, if you don't care about getting the extra free box of them, you can wait until mine arrive and I can tell you how they work out. SaveSave

I've been thinking of buying a FoodSaver for about a year. I don't want to keep it on my counter though & I'm afraid I wouldn't use it enough if I had to drag it out of the pantry each time I used it.
Does anyone have one and not keep it on the counter? If so, do you still use it?

If so, do you still use it? Mine was not on the counter for years. I did drag it out to use it whenever I was prepping foods and it was no big deal to get it out. Over time, I guess I got over needing to have an empty and "magazine photo" looking kitchen. It morphed into what worked best for me, so a few things that I use daily came out and stayed out. I will admit to moving my appliances back into hiding if I am having company and feel like my kitchen should look like I never use it. I think once you see how fresh your vegetables stay in your refrigerator, you will make the effort to get it out and use it. And it is really just a few times a day at most that you will need it unless you are doing a major preparation of a lot of food at once. It becomes a habit just like getting out plates and silverware.

This sounds like a great Christmas gift for my daughter. Can someone please post the website for ordering one? Or is it cheaper at Costco?
TIA

I love my FoodSaver! I should be a salesperson for them! When we built our house, I had a shelf and an electrical outlet installed in my walk-in pantry for the FoodSaver. I love having it accessible but not on the countertop. I know that doesn't work for everyone. But I would still think it's worth its countertop space!

I pull it out about once a week for multiple items. If I had to bend down and dig around behind stuff to get it, I probably would likely not use it that often.

Mine is in the kitchen pantry easily accessed, I don't use it as much as I should. I bought the large and small mouth jar sealer for mason jars. I seal beans and even tea bags that I buy in bulk and seal them in jars. I think I need a new sealer though cuz my bags seem to leak and get icy after about a month.

I want one.
This cooking for one thing is for the birds and I think I would do a lot more of it if I could batch cook in individual portions and freeze them. I sometimes do it now, but covers and press and seal aren't good for longer than a week or two in the freezer. Not to mention being able to portion out dry goods. One little me doesn't ever take advantage of buying in bulk because it just gets stale and yucky before it gets used.
I figure a food saver would be a really good solution.

I just recently got a food saver. I have used it but I think I need the handheld attachment for the containers that I also bought? Or does the hose work for that?
Our kitchen is small and we don't have a lot of counter space and also don't have a lot of cupboard space. I bought one off of Qvc with the vertical tilt so it can be stored on its side, which helps it take up a little less space

I love my Foodsaver! I didn't order any of the bags because I still have a lot left from the last time I ordered.
