I used to like, or even love cooking. Now i just feel used and unappreciated when i make a feast that takes a lot of work. I don't think it's worth the effort anymore.
So what do you all have on your used to like but not worth the effort now list?

For me, things like cooking and decorating I pretty much know will not be appreciated the way I would hope. But I decided that they are worthwhile to me because I enjoy the results. I think subconsciously, people do appreciate these efforts, but it's not at the forefront of their minds so it doesn't get expressed. The absence, I think, would be missed.

Scrapbooking for me too. I don't feel like it will be appreciated by future generations like we felt it would.

I used to love making my kids Halloween costumes. Every year they had unique costumes. I was just thinking this morning that I should toss those patterns.

Shopping. It used to be fun but now, not so much. The ironic thing is I have more time and discretionary income than I ever did (which would have made shopping even more fun in my shopping days), and it's probably the dead last thing I ever want to do now. Even shopping for fun things these days feels like a chore.

I'm with you on cooking, my kids are older but at home. Some like a home cooked meal, some could care less. Sometimes you think a few will be home and you cook, only to find most of them have plans. And lord knows they haven't outgrown their pickiness, lol.
Most nights I don't bother cooking anymore.

Scrapbooking ... I have bins and bins of supplies but no motivation to do it anymore ... gotta donate all of that stuff My mom and I were just talking about this very thing. It seems to have lost its appeal. I have a whole closet full of craft supplies most of which is scrapbooking stuff. I even cleared out two large R'maid tubs full of paper that's in the storage room but who knows if we will ever get back to it. I miss spending time with my mom scrapbooking all weekend so much! Maybe one day.... SaveSave

Even shopping for fun things these days feels like a chore. I'm with you there. The only thing I still enjoy is occasional garage/estates sale and/or thrift store. I think that feels more like a treasure hunt. We need bread, milk and toilet paper right now and don't even want to got get that but considering they're kind of must-haves I guess I have to. I think mine goes back 3 years when I spent pre-Christmas December in hospital and still got it all done online. With free shipping and discount codes not available in stores. And ebates, too. After that it was like "why!?" did I ever go out. If peapod or something was available around here and not too much $ I don't think I'd be going anywhere today.

Sewing. I did this for a living for years and I guess I got burned out making window treatments. I hope to get the notion to sew again.

Shopping in stores. I guess shopping online has spoiled me. I don't mind cooking still but almost hate to as I'm so tired of the clean up.

Cooking as well. Most days I feel like a short order cook. I try to remember that I loved to cook before and try once a month to learn something new or perfect a recipe (this month was kick ass scones- I can't think of a more controversial recipe in a long time! No one makes scones like _insert country_ and they are never _crumbly_fluffy_sweet_light_cakey_insert other adjective here_ enough. I found some I like and that is good enough for me.
Also all exercise, dancing, people, sewing, drawing, movies. The list goes on. I just find I am so busy that anything that isnt basic necessities of life feels like an inconvenience and waste of time. I don't like it but it's just this phase of life I guess. -shrug-

The cooking thing reminds me of the parable of the 10 lepers in scripture. Jesus healed 10 of leprosy but only one returned to thank him. Were they all thankful for their healing? I absolutely think so, but only one was considerate enough to say thanks. As I am cooking a huge meal today for thanksgiving I know that not everyone will say "thanks" but I know in my heart they will all be thankful. I will tell by folks going back for seconds, by the comments "oh this is so good" and by the smiles. But yeah, the actual "I appreciate what you have done" thing will probably not be said outloud by everyone.

Cake decorating...I used to teach classes and make fancy cakes for friends and work all the time. I can't even remember why I stopped.

I have Christmas Eve every year for my side of the family. I took over from my mom, who probably hosted for over 20 years. Before that it was my Grandma. I used to love hosting but now I'm kind of over it and each year I get more overwhelmed leading up to it. I'm already on a low level stress setting, lol.
I'm pretty much the only cousin that can host. Two live too far away and my brother and other cousin homes are way too small. My parents, aunt and uncles are elderly and have health issues so they can't host and I don't expect them to. I feel a great responsibility hosting because everyone looks forward to it and it's really the only time all of us are together at the same time.

I used to love making my kids Halloween costumes. Every year they had unique costumes. I was just thinking this morning that I should toss those patterns. Don't do that! Some day yu might have grandkids and just think of the patterns you have that aren't available anymore. I still have a Minnie Mouse, Winnie the Pooh plus Kermie and Miss Piggy patterns. I am always dismayed at the selection available these days and can say I am honestly glad I held ontot he patterns. My kids always had special costumes that started with a pattern. Now they are young adults and my son is really getting into Comicon and my 21yo daughter believes that Halloween is as much an adult holiday as a kids holiday and i have made Disney Princess costumes the last few years LOL. It is th eone thing I know is still appreciated unlike the cooking that I basically don't do much of these days.

I am starting to enjoy cooking except: if no one is going to be home except me, if DS will eat what I have prepared and if it's on my dad's diet. I want to make fun food once in a while but that doesn't seem to happen any more. I am making paella tomorrow night, though. That might be fun.
I used to love sewing. I worked in a clothing store so I have no need for clothes. Really no need for nice clothes. I have lots!
I used to love shopping. I went to Michaels today and there were 50 people in line. The line up snaked around 2x and it was crazy. There was one thing I would have considered, but I bought on Amazon instead because it was about $100 less that way. (Laminator and envelopes).
I used to love dressing up and looking "fancy" for lack of a better word. I am in a blouse and yoga pants right now. I did wear a jacket to go to the mall with BFF which looked presentable, but it's hard to get dressed up any longer. I am kind of frustrated with that.
I am wondering if it's an age thing or it's an apathy thing or just depression again? I suspect it's depression again. It can't just leave me alone.

Making a big deal out of birthdays. I used to really enjoy it. I would plan nice gifts or outings for family and friends and really delight in making their day special. But over the years I realized no one appreciated it and no one ever reciprocated so I'd just wind up with hurt feelings. Now I do the bare minimum, can't say anyone has noticed the difference.

I agree with shopping. I'd rather do it online. Christmas shopping is getting harder and harder. I don't know what to buy my adult kids. I have no time to hit the malls.

Sewing. I took fashion design classes and can make a sketch of a garment, then construct it. But I did piece work for a boutique to earn extra income for a while and now all sewing is a chore to me.

I used to love making my kids Halloween costumes. Every year they had unique costumes. I was just thinking this morning that I should toss those patterns. My favorite memories of Halloween include my costumes. Each one was made by hand by my mother. She has made most of my three girls costumes as well. My girls love them too. When I was a kid I never told her how much I appreciated them. As an adult I made sure to tell her. My "used to like" is cooking. The kids are just as happy with mac and cheese from a box as they are with homemade.

Planning classroom lessons and bulletin boards. I was so enthusiastic about all of it. I would spend hours each night researching and planning. After a while, the fun just went out of it for me. I think I started to feel like the more I did, the more people expected. It just wasn't fun anymore. And that is when I stopped teaching.
