Almost there! For Monday, I chose EDUCATION as the prompt, and my page features 3 of my 4 dgd's on their first day of school this fall. Education by Gramma Dee, on Flickr I chose the girls, because for me as a woman of my era, education was the only way to approach any kind of equality. I chose one of the few professions that women entered back then: teaching. And it was also a profession where we were paid on a "grid", so if we had the education and the experience, we were paid on the same scale as a man with the same qualifications. There were about 300 engineering students the year I started University: ONE of them was a woman. There was one female student in Medicine at the time, but the ratio was higher because there were fewer med students. I am thankful that my father insisted that I get a university degree: I was the only girl in the family and the only one of his five kids that went directly into a degree program. He wanted me to be capable of being independent, to go into marriage as an equal rather than as a dependent. Long before I left for campus, he insisted that I keep my eyes open, analyze everything, think things through, and figure things out. I am VERY thankful that my granddaughters have a choice of the field they want to enter. They can be anything they choose to be if they work hard in school. And I know that what they learn in their chosen fields will shape the way they think for their lifetimes. What a long way we have come in the last half century. These young ladies will take us even farther!

What a coincidence! I chose DD19's education to be thankful for. She worked extremely hard throughout her school years and was number 4 in a class of 606 students. That was incredible in itself.
While I was sick she decided to become a pharmacist. She was very intrigued by everything I was given and the reasons behind each medicine or cocktail of supplements. She was also happy that she would be able to work part time during the baby years, yet still make a good living. She managed to get a full scholarship from the university she chose, plus outside scholarships that have funded a summer semester with a campus apartment. She has saved all the extra money to help fund pharmacy school after she has her degree in biology with a minor in chemistry. There's more than enough $$ to fund her weekly personal money and travel money, but we chose to make sure that is covered so she can save every penny of what is left from scholarships...and she does.
She will be very successful in life...and I am thankful!
PS...I love DS29 and DD17 equally, but I'm just a proud momma!!!

We gave each of our kids an equal start in post secondary, but it was nowhere enough to pay all their expenses. After the first year, they all needed student loans. The boys supplemented with summer employment for which they were very well paid. Dd worked too, but her pay was less because of the jobs that were available to her. But she earned the difference in scholarships. I am thankful for the opportunities those scholarships provided her.
