As a spinoff on the Minc thread, I wanted to make a foiled transparency. Is it safe to laser print onto acetate or a transparency and then run it through the Minc? I tried to research on Heidi's site but there were no FAQs I could find. She does sell her own branded acetate. I am just not sure if it is specially made for the Minc or if any old acetate/transparency sheet will do.
Anyone try this yet?
Thanks! Susan

Caution! It may depend on the transparency!! I tried just an office supply brand that I've used for other scrapbooking things (printed transparencies, etc.) and it totally didn't work. It just got very hard, and 'crunchy' and actually got stuck in the Minc rollers. I had to take the whole machine apart to get it free. It almost completely destroyed my machine. Even now, I can't get the pieces back together properly... luckily I was able to get it working enough so that it is useable. Also, the foil stuck to the whole piece of transparency, not just the printed part. Could totally have just been the brand that I used, but I bought the Heidi Swapp one for future use...

I've used transparencies for laser printers with no issue at all. Works perfectly.

I just tried it tonight and it worked great. I bought transparencies specifically designed for laser printers and I think that makes a difference. The transparency foiled just fine, but one problem I noticed is when you turn it over, you still see black toner on the backside of the transparency. This unfortunately would be seen in a pocket page. Since it is black, I don't mind that much since my DD album has a lot of black in it. Just thought I should mention it.

Paper Wishes sells a Heat Resistant Acetate for use with heat set ep's. Pretty expensive--about $2 per 9x12 sheet. works great for stamping & embossing. I haven't tried it in a laser printer or laminator.

smaker, it would be interesting to know if you can see the toner on the reverse of the HS branded acetate and vellum. I'm thinking that it's unavoidable since the toner doesn't dissolve when heated. Personally, I'd rather see black toner that a coloured foil that may not match the spread behind it.

icequeen - yes, I would imagine that you would see the black on the reverse side just as you described. It really isn't bothering me much so I think I am just going to roll with it.
