elaine that was Maverick. he passed this last may, cancer. He was 12 and a very special little man. Thank you. He was my heart dog. As for the IP I'm not sure i have 'manual' cooking down yet. did the water test OK bit when I tried manual for chili I think I just set the timer but didnt actually trigger the pressure cooking part. I'll get it. I'm newly separated, living alone and want to stop buying so much frozen food. Annette

The timer numbers show once you hit a cooking mode and then you use + and - to adjust the time. It then takes about 30-60 seconds until it then shifts from timer mode over to "on" and heating/cooking. It stays in timer mode long enough for you to quickly check your recipe and adjust before it flips over to cooking mode where you can't change the time.

I made a big pot of chili in my 6 quart IP tonight for dinner. We had enough for dinner (including seconds for my dh and younger ds) and I put back 6 individual portion containers to freeze. My husband would say the IP is worth its cost in its chili-making-prowess alone.

I have had stew in the crock pot all day before and still ended up with a few hard carrots or potatoes. I knew the IP would not disappoint me in that regard! Save

My new pot arrived yesterday and a it works! Yea! I did the water test and that seemed to work, so I made eggs. I think they were overlooked, so next time I will adjust the time.then I decided I would make a roast. It was only half defrosted, so I cooked it for 60 minutes, checked on it, then cooked it for another 30 minutes. It was delicious! Very tender. I cooked carrots and potatoes separately, and for too long because they were mushy. So then, only because I had taken the eggs and cream cheese out to warm up, I made cheesecake. It was definitely a learning experience! First of all,I learned that I need to make sure that I have all of the ingredients on hand before I start. Apparently I needed whipping cream. Didn't have it. Also, I won't start the process at 10 pm unless I really want to stay up super late at night. Otherwise, it was edible and I know better for next time. I also learned that the pin in my stand mixer is stuck. So today my insta pot is going back in the box and gettin wrapped and put under the tree and I will be attempting to fix the mixer. I am loving my new instant pot! You don't need to use whipping cream in any of these recipes. I always use 1% milk with some half-and-half in it. Maybe half milk and half of the half-and-half. It comes out fine.

I googled "copy cat Panera broccoli cheese soup pressure cooker" and got this recipe. Knock-off Panera broccoli-cheese soupIt was EXCELLENT! Dd said it tasted exactly like Panera's, which is one of her favorites. Then she said "Mom, this pressure cooker is one of the best things that's happened to me." So I reached down and opened the cupboard where the *second* pressure cooker lives. hahahahaha ![](//storage.proboards.com/5645536/images/Ivm7lm0DayrhoRpwvCeH.jpg) She didn't realize I'd gotten a second because she just got home from college.

I made this recipe and it was really good! I accidentally forgot the bell pepper but still yummy! I cooked it on high pressure for 5 min and did a natural release. Had it for lunch and dinner. I added guac and a tiny bit of cheese on top. Yummy! kristineskitchenblog.com/one-pot-vegetarian-chili-mac/amp/ETA: having it for lunch again and it tastes even better!

I'm sure DS never had it before, and being picky wouldn't have tried it at home. He loved it!. I remembered RefuPea discussion so searched site for the recipe. This and another discussion came up. LOL that's my reason at least. I found this recipe online, but trust Pea judgement more: instantpot.com/creamy-rice-pudding/

My father is wanting an air fryer. Does anyone have a certain one or brand you would recommend? Thanks. Not sure if anyone ever answered this ... We got the one they have at Sam's club. Not sure of the brand at the moment, but it works GREAT and is large capacity. We have a family of 4 and enough food for all of use easily fits into it.

I'm going to have to start reading and participating in these threads. I've had a pressure cooker for awhile-- a year, maybe? I got on the bandwagon due to NSBR, of course. I don't have the Instant Pot Brand. I got mine on QVC or HSN when they were on sale and a lot of us were buying them. I think it's a Cook's Essentials brand. I've used it successfully to make a few things-- salsa chicken for chicken tacos really stands out as a great success. I had one real dud, too-- a corned beef. I don't know if that was due to the brand I bought (store brand-- it wasn't near St. Pat's day and it's hard to find them at other times), or my cooking technique, but no one liked it at all, and we're huge fans of the traditional corned beef dinner. I was a little disillusioned with the fact that it's not as fast as I thought it would be, when you take into account the time it takes to get to pressure and the time it takes to come down after the cooking time is over. I do think that if you understand that and take it into account, it's not a big deal. The biggest reason I tend to stay away from it is because of the silicone ring. When I've used it to make the salsa chicken, the silicone ring smells strongly of chili powder and cumin. I spent so much time trying different strategies to destink it, and was not terribly successful. It makes me not want to use it. Does anyone have any advice on this? I am determined to try a recipe this week and hopefully fall in love with it. Could you please post your recipe for salsa chicken? Sounds yummy!

Sure! It's a recipe I found on Skinnytaste.com. Not sure how to link on my phone, but you can search for "instant Pot easy salsa shredded chicken". It is definitely easy, and it turns out juicy and delicious--perfect for chicken tacos.
