I moisturize (with an SPF!) let it sit for 20 minutes, then I apply primer. I go right in with foundation after that. I use a damp beauty blender! It's the BEST BEST BEST at applying a gorgeous foundation. I've used stippling brushes, flat foundation brushes, fingers, etc. I want the foundation to adhere to my skin, not sit on top of it. Look into a Beauty Blender sponge and watch some YouTube videos on how to use it. Once you get the hang of it, it is flawless!!
Be aware of how foundation is targeted. I don't want my face to "glow" bc within 30-45 min my oily skin creates its own natural glow anyway with its damn grease! If a foundation claims to create dewy, glowing skin I do not buy it or try it bc it's counterintuitive to the look I want! Does that make sense?
For someone with dry skin though, you'd want your foundation to create a nice glow!

My absolute favorite foundation is one I've worn since I discovered it 3 years ago. It's Urban Decay Naked Skin Weightless Ultra Definition Liquid Makeup. I love this foundation! I put it on with a damp sponge (although there is a brush that is sold under the Urban Decay name too that many people like). I have dry, fair skin with pink undertones. Being 56 I have under eye wrinkles and this foundation blends and smoothes over that making them less noticeable. It covers well, but isn't heavy at all. It's the first foundation I've ever used that doesn't feel like I have makeup on. Once it's on I don't feel it at all, and it lasts for hours-10 or more.
It comes in 24 different shades which I really love, because it is sometimes hard to find a match to your skin tone in makeup lines with only 5 or 6 shades like some makeup lines.
You can go to Ulta and ask to find a shade and if they will let you try it. They have great women who work there that will put the makeup on your face so you can see how you like it, and make sure you are getting the right shade.
For me shopping at Ulta is so much easier than Sephora, because Ulta is so easy for me to get to in my neighborhood, and Sephora is buried deep within our huge mall (which I avoid like the plague).
Ulta will also allow you to return items you've opened and tried if the color doesn't work on your face, or it you don't like it for whatever reason.
If you are younger and don't have any wrinkles Patter's suggestion of Lucy Minerals is great. I used to use them until my under eye wrinkles became so noticeable.

For those that like the IT CC Cream - my friend just sent me the link to QVC.com who is having the CC Cream in a Super Size (2.53-fl oz. vs. 1.08 fl. oz ) (its 2 1/2 of the regular size) until tonight at midnight. Here is the link, but the deal expires tonight: IT Cosmetics Super-Size Full Coverage SPF 50 CreamI was just going to post this. I have been using Revlon Colorstay for years and still like it, but I tried this IT CC cream and liked it so much I decided to try it longterm and ordered the auto delivery option. I have very sensitive skin, and this is great stuff.

...Do you put on primer first, let it "set" for a couple minutes, then put on foundation/CC cream? Or mix primer with foundation? Want to make sure I do it the right way! My process is moisturizer/sunscreen, wait several minutes (while I dress & chose accessories), primer, wait a couple minutes, corrector, foundation, etc. Best wishes!

For my dry skin, a dewy glow would be great! You may want to sample the new L'Oreal Infallible Pro-Glow, instead of the Pro-Matte. Hope you find a foundation that works well for you!

I used to use Lancôme until they discontinued it. Hate that when you find something that works and they quit making it. This sums up my life experience with Lancôme products. Find a product that's beautiful? Discontinued. Find that holy grail product that works? Discontinued. I'm still annoyed at them for discontinuing my fave lipstick, the Vinfit line, Hydrative moisturizer, and some nice serums I liked. Why are they so fickle? (And yet every time I think I'm out...they pull me back in.) I like the water Dr. Jart bb, it's very light and soft. I have dry skin and live in a dry climate, so I need foundations/bb creams to have a lot of slip.

I use It CC cream as well. I apply with a brush. I do think that it helps clear the skin as well. I've noticed an improvement in my breakouts and skin tone. I also squirt the makeup on the back of my left hand and feel that that hand looks slightly better than my right, even though I drive a lot for work and it should be the opposite.
I order from qvc now. The big tube lasts a long time. I need to cancel my autoship because I have two extra tubes now.

I used to go there all the time (I grew up in Bowie) and now we live in Pgh., we visit my parents at Christmas and always go to that mall a few days after Christmas. It is crazy, but my kids love it because it's bigger than our local mall in Pgh. Thanks for the tip on Ulta!

If you buy drug store make up at CVS and do not like it you can return with receipt, no questions asked. This has been my year for experimenting and I have returned quite a few things. I now use Chanel Vitalumne and love it.

I like it there plus they carry my favorite lipstick line Lipstick Queen, and Sephora doesn't. Lipstick Queen makes these amazing very moisturizing lipsticks that feel more like a lip balm on my lips. My favorite of the line is Frog Prince. It is green in the tube but comes out the most beautiful reddish rose on your lips-perfect for each person. And it lasts too! Try it when you are there.

I did see Ulta had a $25 small set with Frog, Sailor and another color.

I'm not a big fan of primer - too many layers for me. I use a light moisturizer with SPF and just apply foundation over that. No problem with settling into lines. I have dry, fair skin and freckles. Right now I'm using Tarte Rainforest of the Sea (silly name, but great foundation) and really like it. It's very buildable so you can get the coverage you want. Because it's water-based, I actually don't use my beauty blender with it - it absorbs right into the blender sponge. Just smooth on with clean fingers and it absorbs into the skin. Very nice dewy finish.
For a drugstore foundation I also like the FIT me or L'Oreal True Match. Nice range of colors and good, light/med coverage.

I love Fit me . They have the biggest color selection and the mat one works great for my skin. Is this the one by Maybelline? What type skin does it look better for and does it give you good coverage? I have ben looking into this for awhile. Been using clinque for years and just not getting the coverage I need now that I'm older.

If you have dry skin use the dewy and smooth. I also use it with the hard candy sheer envy primer . I get almost full coverage with a beauty blender. Fit me also has a great pressed power..

Sailor and Frog are my two favorites out of all of them plus they are defiantly the most moisturizing by far. I also have Medieval, and two of the Butterfly Ball ones-but they just sit in my drawer. When you go in you can try them on the back of your wrist AND ask a clerk and she will wipe them off and sanitize them and then help you sample them on your lips. Figure out which one you'd rather try on your lips because I advise you to only try one at a time per visit. They stain pretty well (which is good, you want the color to last). I will say that they are both very moisturizing, but I think the Frog does a more lasting job with the moisture. And it is such a pretty color on lips. Have fun! I adore these lipsticks. I searched and searched for years for a great lip balm because I have such dry lips in the winter and these do a better and prettier job than any lip balm.
